HD48x0 without a doubt, ATi was king this year. Particularly good after a year of nVidia reign, makes a nice, healthy consumer market.
And low prices due to awesome competition.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

"people in ny have a general idea of how to drive. one of the pedals goes forward the other one prevents you from dying"
null.. as previously mentioned. (Just ignore the $$)

E8400 only because I don't have or need a 48x0.

For now it's for enterprise stuff exlusively—an 80GB version will set you back $3,000, on up to $14,400 for 320GB. If you are interested in this kind of thing, the boys at Tweaktown have written a ten pager on it.
Performance isn't everything.
in that case, I'll say the new LED-TVs look pretty goodKmarion wrote:

Genocide is pretty , if you ignore the people dying part.
Because that's what that part is, fucking awesome if you ignore the travesty to mankind that is its price tag.
What the fuck are you on .. genocide analogy?Flaming_Maniac wrote:

It is new technology.. that is cool.. prices will fall.. now bite me.

Hummers are pretty cheap to drive, if you ignore the MPG part.Kmarion wrote:

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Well then you can come back and vote for that tech in the 2019 tech of the year poll, for now vote for something that we plebeians can afford.
Well golly gee since the OP was so specific I must be out of my mind. Prices are relative ..and I'm rich bitch.Freezer7Pro wrote:

Is it innovative? Sure. As a product, where all aspects of quality and value should be taken in to account, is it the best? No.Kmarion wrote:

If you want to buy it, go for it, do it justice in a system of components bought with a similar mentality. That doesn't mean any of those components have the best value though.
HD48x0.
Edit: When making a list like these, give some more time to refine the list. Didn't one person nominate the Roccat mouse in passing?
Oh, right: "EDIT: Oh and the Roccat Kone mouse is P-I-M-P."
Pimp could be justification for a lot of things, a mouse is not one of them.

OP non title: Best cost effective hardware of 2008

Wasnt the Q6600 more of a 2007 thing?

It's the OP's discretion on what "best hardware" means, which seems to not agree with yours. I guess since the drive isn't on the list, we can't vote for it anyway.Kmarion wrote:

Were talking best tech, not the best and most affordable tech to the everyday consumer. In terms of innovation this should have defiantly made the list.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

There should have been an "Other" option to be honest. Should have been that hadron collider that could destroy everything
Urm I have E8400, 48x0 and P5Q Pro, balls.
I'll go with the Roccat Kone.

Wait behind the line ..............................................................
I'll wait for FRAM to come before getting something like that.
FRAM is somewhat cheap to make, is as fast as DRAM, but doesn't loose the data when power is cut.
