it says with the newest drivers you can use a second GPU that is dedicated to physx
with my system specs, would it benefit me at all to install a second card to do this?

It says the second card does not have to be the same as the first one,
the second card I have is out of an older system, an Evga 8500GT 512MB.

what do you guys think?

here is what it says on the nvidia site.

NVIDIA® GeForce® configurations for PhysX™
PhysX™ supported GPUs: NVIDIA® GeForce® 8-series, 9-series, and 200-series GPUs with a minimum of 256MB dedicated graphics memory
3-way SLI        SLI graphics rendering +
PhysX acceleration
2-way SLI        SLI graphics rendering +
PhysX acceleration
Multi-Card
New        Card 1: Graphics rendering
Card 2: Dedicated to PhysX acceleration
Graphics card 2 is not required to have the same GPU as graphics card 1
Single Card        Graphics rendering +
PhysX calculation

What would you do with a dedicated phys x card?

well I would normally be a bit stoked about this. 2 things I would need to get 2 cards(well not need but to have one dedicated to phys-x) so a 9800GTX and a 8600GT or one 4850? I will stick with getting the 4850

Don't you need an SLi-compatible motherboard?

As of right now, Physx isn't really being used mainstream and I only know of a really small number of games that can take advantage of Physx. Unless you have a specific application in mind that uses Physx I would say it is not worth it.

Is an "Asus P5N-E SLI nForce® 650i SLI" SLI compatible, I wonder?

Now that's a kick in the balls, seeing I'm using 8800GTX + 8800GTS G92 on a X38

Oh well, second card dedicated to folding

If you have a 8 series card you should already be running those games maxed out with 100fps....

Also, can anyone confirm whether you need SLi to do this, or can you do it on a crossfire mobo?

#
# Enables NVIDIA PhysX acceleration on a dedicated GeForce graphics card. Use one card for graphics and dedicate a different card for PhysX processing for game-changing physical effects. Learn more here. (Note: GPU PhysX is supported on all GeForce 8-series, 9-series and 200-series GPUs with a minimum of 256MB dedicated graphics memory. This driver package automatically installs PhysX System Software version 8.10.13).
Doesn't say it needs SLi, I'll give it a shot, what games take advantage of Physx?

This I do confirm... My 8800GTX had no issues handling them at max quality. This is why there is no point in optimizing the 8,9,G200 drivers for those games anymore. So... I think there is no change between these drivers.

I don't know... but considering u don't need SLi bridge to conenct the cards.... It might be possible as long as there are enough PCI-E x16 slots...

I'll ask about this from ppl who are more familiar with PhysX...

Yah I get 100 Fps in BF2 with all the video settings maxed out (1280x1024, 60hz) on one 8800GTX video card.

Alright, just finished playing some Warmonger in offline mode.

Tried it with just my 8800GTX, all settings maxed out 1680x1050 = LAGGGGGGY!
Same settings with my 8800GTS 512 as a PhysX card = SMOOOOOOOOOOOTH.

Destructable environment FTW! Blasting a brick wall with an RPG = WIN.
