It feels like you have a 1 in 10 chance of getting into a good server.

I mean wtf is that for a server browser? Doesn't even tell you what country or ping people have when you join a lobby, so you might be waiting 10 minutes for a game to start only to end up in an Australian server.

It's just a joke, I'm trying to play with my friends but it can take upwards of 20 minutes until we are finally in a server with a good ping.

Don't get me wrong, I like the game in general, but it feels like they spent about 5 minutes working on the server browser and servers.

The lobby system is shitty for computers and I agree that Valve dropped the ball there.

If you have a full group of friends, you can make a dedicated server and have them all join via IP. Or, you can have your friends type "openserverbrowser" in to the console to get the traditional browser. The only problem is that it is incompatible with the matchmaking system. There is a way to make your dedicated server the only one viewable by the matchmaking system by modifying the search key. Others have gotten it to work, mine isn't as of yet.

DefCon, I agree that it's easier to win as survivors but only because all the really have to do is stick together and move quickly. If I say that over the mic at the beginning of a pug round, most times we win. It's a simple concept that people are familiar with. It's harder for infected, but I've also been wrecked by slightly coordinated zombie attacks. It's all about co-op on both sides.

I know the feeling. There are ways around it apparently, using the console to pick a server, something like that anyway bu I'm not bothered o learn how to d that. Also you know the Steem Group servers they show? Every single one has a ping of 300 or above so why those servers get displayed while other more useful and closer ones do not is beyond me. A simple solution would be to allow a lobby to browse and reserve an empty server of their choice, failing that the fallback could then be the "scanner".

I have faith that Valve will fix the problem since the server system seems to be the major complaint from the non-Xbox community.

I'm pissed off that L4D as a whole is a gimmick game that has taken far too much dev-attention and player activity from TF2.

Not when I play it...I've got about a 10:1 Infected win rate when I play (rough estimate, ofc).

It depends on who you're with.

I think it's incredibly well balanced, it just feels incredibly unbalanced.

Yeah I agree, it is pretty balanced. You just have to.. work together I guess. Otherwise it's just lots of waiting to respawn..

The waiting to respawn is the shit part. If your the infected and die it would be nice if you could play as one of the lesser zombies while you aren't able to do much damage at least your part of the game.

They better come out with a patch soon, I'm really starting to regret buying it.

If you could clone yourself 7 times and play L4D like that, I bet the Survivors would (nearly) always win.

The problem is that it only finds games in session. There is no lobby function in the server browser where characters, difficulties, etc are set.

Calling it a gimmick game is harsh. Despite some elements of unfinished business, the game is overall quite polished. Balance between survivors and zombies is more skill-based than due to any particular stat. The survivors can get second tier weapons early, the zombies can get tanks early. Coordinate, disrupt healing, revives, butt-stroke boomers through doorways, close the doors and blast them through it, listen for telltale music and sounds for the disposition of zombie forces, etc. And there's plenty of games that have stolen attention from TF2, like CoD5, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, etc., so it's unfair to swab L4D with gimmickry-accusations. Besides which, if TF2 is a quality game, it'll pick up again. I'm not sure I will, unless I hear that there's about two dozen new official maps for it.

L4D's fun, but as the initial novelty wears off, random server quality seems to be going down. The game needs an injection of server browser, STAT. I'm not sure what they were thinking when they made it so difficult, but in the past couple days, I join a game and more players are running off on their own, more zombies are idling, there's more purposeful friendly fire for no good reason and already when you ask a question, you're bombarded with 'NUB.' By a team that has about 10% of your team's score, no less.

Friends are nice, but if you haven't made many within the opening few weeks, you're through. All I really have in L4D is the ones I've already made. All the other encounters are either 'ubergamer' teens with the dispositions of horny, racist badgers or comic book guy 'adults.'

Unnamed I don't think it was unfair to call L4D a 'gimmick' at all, it's an extremely shallow zombie shooter game. What's really new in it since the very first demo? No new guns, no new enemies, no new encounters. Sure the background scenery changes but after 10+ hours of playing it boils down into the same repeating routine of kill a swarm-horde and then deal with each 'x' or 'y' special Infected appropriately. Completing each Campaign on Expert is challenging, I'll grant you that... but not satisfying. This game bored me to tears with repetition, and angered me at the same time because of how much developer time it was taking away from the much-anticipated TF2 class updates.

In comparison with the competitive potential and the hardcore following of TF2, L4D is a passing fart in the wind of online gaming.

Oh I can't believe I didn't mention this before, WHAT THE FUCK is with the randomness of the levels???

In one round as infected you might get two tanks, but the next round when you are survivors, no tanks at all. Sometimes the survivors get grenades and molotovs and health packs at every corner but the next round the survivors don't get shit, except for maybe a tank after them.

Can someone explain the point of that? It's not even like they at least change a multiplier for how easy it was.

It depends on how good you are doing in the game, if you pwn the shit of the infected in expert, the next round is gonna make it harder and remove some of the stuff so you don't have a cakewalk again. At least that's what I heard it would be.
