Should youth sports keep score?

I just found out today that the youth soccer/football (whatever you prefer to call it) that I used to play in when i was about 7 recently stopped keeping score. Do you believe that youth sports should have no score and no winner? Discuss

I personally think it's bullshit. If it was me playing, id still keep fucking score. How do you play a game with no winners and losers?

It is poor. Some kids need to be told from a young age that they just suck, and lose at life, and will inevitably spend the rest of their futile existence as subservient to the real winners and success stories. I cannot think of a better introduction than junior weekend football. Let 'em have it.

I know it's upsetting to lose in a sports event...but why can't the parents/coach tell the kids who lost that we played hard but they beat us... Let's work extra hard this week in practice and play even better and win next weekend... remembering to play with class and dignity regardless of the outcome...

no score cheats the kids on how good they can be.... why practice hard to make yourself better... we play and nobody wins...lame

the people who make up these ideas...thinking for us and what's good for us and our children... are wrong... make your own kid a sheltered puss... We wan't to compete and win... if we lose... see you next week for a rematch...

I used to ref soccer in High School. Those parents are psycho. I thought some lady was going to come on the pitch after me because she thought her kid was fouled.

Learning how to lose is as valuable a lesson in life as well as the glory of winning, this bollox where everyone wins and it's the taking part that is important is a fucking travesty in sport & should be decried at every opportunity.

I don't remember taking the score down when I was in teeball but as soon as the coaches started pitching to us we did. I suppose that was around 7 or 8ish.

When the kids are learning the game = no score
When the kids have learned the game = keep score

At seven years old, however, the kids should know how to play and are competiting outside of sports...so yes, at that age keep score.

My kids league didn't keep score in Basketball up until 3rd grade. But I know all those kids knew what the score was, so it is stupid that they don't. KIDS are not IDIOTS!

ummm...wrong...girls can be just as competitive as guys.

I think keeping score is important in teaching the point of the game...

this crap started when I was in high school on the varsity volleyball team...VARSITY...parents would complain because their daughter didn't get enough playing time. That it wasn't fair because they had been at every practice...ummm...hello!!! Your daughter is huge and can't get her fat ass more than 2 inches off the floor...of course the coach gave in to the pressure and let the fat girls play more. Losing season...yay!

okay...almost 10 years later and I am still bitter about it.

Honestly, I dunno about other sports. But if people can't keep a football (soccer) score in their heads than they shouldn't be playing the game, and if the score gets so large that they can't keep the score in their mind, then again, they shouldn't be playing the game.
