I haven't been to the new planetarium. The last time I went was probably 20 years ago when it was in it's old location and they were still running the laser Pink Floyd show.ELITE-UK wrote:

California sucks.
Yeah, it wasn't very big, but it was fun. That and the Zeppelin show.ATG wrote:

Using a firearm and enjoying it is different. I am pretty damn good with a rifle, not so keen on pistols much but I do enjoy some. For me a personal firearm, not the m16a4 / m9 I like to have something that I feel is more like an extension of myself. I don't like glocks, I know they're effective and work well but I simply don't like the look and feel, ie character/personality. I do like my buddy's Kimber Pro Carry 2. It's a .45, matte black with wood grain style hand grips. It's a nice firearm to go out and shoot, have a ball with. Sure if I get into the shit I don't care what I have as long as it fires and is accurate.Parker wrote:
that means absolutely nothing to me.m3thod wrote:

but honestly, "personality" and "character"?
have you ever even shot a firearm?
A. there is a 15 year old from fuckin sweden or something here that has USMC shit all over his avatar and sig bullshit.
B. i have met plenty of marines that didnt know jack shit about firearms, much less effectively use them.
There is a huge difference between your service firearms and your personal fun firearms and obviously Elite UK was shooting the latter of the two. That is why I was wondering why people get the black box instead of something that is more representative of their own style. It's why some people enjoy shotguns, others rifles and still others prefer pistols.
So before you start calling someone a geeze or ripping on them for enjoying a past time and the uniqueness of each weapon think. You can fire any firearm effectively if taught how, but enjoying it is much different.
Hey did you go to PF Changs as well? More expensive by a lot than Panda Express but also better quality.
nobody truly knows how to use a weapon until you are getting fired at. target practice doesnt mean shit.Parker wrote:

opposite for me.Ridir wrote:

i love shooting pistols, but find rifles somewhat boring.
i carry a kimber as well. damn good guns, and i suppose it is an extension of me, as one of my businesses makes custom 1911 grips, so i take my personal favorites for my own gunsRidir wrote:

i mostly blame movies for everyone and their mom getting a glock. the reason you dislike them is the same reason i do...and well, i like a gun to have some weight to it. 1911 is a perfect example...
i wasnt ripping on you at all, and m3thod was the one that called you geeze...but i think its some UK thing and it wasnt an insult.Ridir wrote:

and i certainly wasnt ripping on you for enjoying firearms. hell, its one of my favorite hobbies. i suppose i was just qualifying your response, cause there are a few people here that are completely full of shit.
you might want to let the special operations community in on your little secret, cause they are under the impression that training is what you fall back on in combat.usmarine wrote:

it doesnt prove whether you can truly use your weapon effectively or not dude. not sure how you can argue that.Parker wrote:

It's a UK thing...never heard Ali G say it?!
geezer:
In the U.K.: A guy, a bloke, a person in general. The British equivalent of the American slang word "dude".

Blackbelts are just whitebelts who have never quit.
I'm going to come to the defense of the UK vernacular and point out that "geezer" is not an insult, the word doesn't really carry negative or positive connotations. It's a slang-word for 'bloke', 'man', an individual with a penis.Parker wrote:

ok, so according to you, target shooting doesnt mean shit, and it does NOT have an impact on whether or not you will be effective with a gun in a combat situation?
right
im guessing you didnt train anyone with firearms in your time in the corps?
ive been trained by some bad motherfuckers, and all of them have impressed upon me the fact that time at the range is a NECESSITY.
i think im gonna stay on the safe side and listen to the current and ex special forces operators.
thanks for the advice though.
no way, historically they cant shoot worth a shit..Sup wrote:

i think you are not getting what i am saying. of course it is necessary. it still doesnt mean you truly know how to use it until it comes down to a real shootout. have fun with your tough guys i guess. lolParker wrote:

Gents, I apologize for the geezer attack. It means old crusty fart from where I am from in the states.
As for USMarine's argument there are two different types of shooting. Combat shooting and target shooting. Target shooting is the USMC qualification for pizzabox, sharpshooter, expert. Combat shooting is the training you are thinking of when you mentioned the SpecOps doctrine. Their philosphy is to have their actions become second nature through repetition so when they come under fire their natural reaction is what they trained. Of course sometimes train as much as possible and when that round pops overhead (or to the side of) some people are still going to freak out, they'll be erratic and fire blindly and empty magazines at absolutely nothing because they are so scared.

that is why you try and simulate the adrenaline rush as much as you can. running long distances before you start shooting is a great way to do this. after i have taught someone the basic points and they have started making tight groups, i usually drop a package of firecrackers between their legs and that as well simulates the adrenaline rush.usmarine wrote:

i would take the time to explain all the ways to do this, but people pay me for it, so im gonna pass.
i sure will. thanks to their training like i said, people now pay me to learn what i knowusmarine wrote:

hang? right. you are pulling quotes trying to win something or whatever. go teach someone about combat or something.Parker wrote:

I think this debate ultimately falls down to who has killed the most people.usmarine wrote:

Come on, flash those figures- Parker from St.Louis, Marine from Iraq... this could become extremely competitive.

no, thats not it at all. people could be the best marksman on the range when the fear of death is not present. simple point really.Uzique wrote:

I know, I was kidding. I've obviously never fired a weapon, neither do I intend to enter into this sort of discussion where I have zero experience.usmarine wrote:

Was just offering a possible trump-card scenario for a discussion that could stream off into the point of infinity .
