Time to stop buying from these idiots. I'd rather have Caribou suffering than me.

I always hated that country. The old equation of Lots of money+Shit military=You get fucked and your assets taken

Now they get to hoard their money and control people thousands of miles away. Dicks.

Good. With fuel prices plummeting I was getting worried that we would take our eye off the ball. .. energy independence. It's about time we got a reminder. The ultimate goal here is to tell them to fuckoff. Most of our oil comes from Canada anyways.

It would make more sense to invest more in alternative energy than to drill more here.  Granted, I guess we could do both.

You know what might work out cheaper? Installing terrorists in Saudi Arabia then invading them and taking their shit.

There already are terrorists there.  The Wahhabist community supports terror across the world.  It's one of the most extremist sects of Islam that exists, and Al Quida actually draws some of its membership from it.

I know they support it, but it's whether or not they contribute to it. Like Iran does.

Thousands of Irish support the IRA and attacks on Britain still, but we can't go and fuck them up for talking shit.

So far, there's no evidence that the Saudi government supports terror, but there are several wealthy people there that do.  For example, we have enough evidence to believe that someone within the Bin Laden family still contributes to the black sheep of the family.

The Saudi government has also told us in the past that they would support an insurgency in Iraq if Iran took it over after we leave.  So, obviously, they are willing to support terror given certain circumstances.  Granted, we have too.

Talk isn't worth fighting for in governments eyes. Unless it's worth money. And now it is, we really should sort these guys out. Our economies are shit whilst these guys take a run around they're 50 square miles of land whilst phoning up their old friends from our favourite terrorist group to lend their support. Why aren't we intervening? International backlash? When did that ever stop anyone...

I don't think people have the money to wait around in the mean time - Why can't we do both at the same time? My friend just told me his parents took five hundred dollars out of his college fund leaving it with 0$'s so they could buy groceries. Do you think they can withstand higher prices at this time?

Supposedly, Saudi Arabia has been fighting terrorism internally.  We have reason to believe they are making some progress.  The problem is that the legitimacy of their government is on shaky ground.  The people of Saudi Arabia aren't particularly fond of their government.  They tend to lean in a more fanatical direction than their government, but on the flipside, the Saudi government tends to be more authoritarian than the people would like.

As the average Saudi rises in the standard of living, they will begin to demand more democratic reforms.  This is going to put a lot of pressure on the government while they try to eliminate terrorism in their own country.  Sadly, this conflict between the people and the government often makes some of the public sympathetic to terror causes.  In a weird way, this is somewhat reminiscent of how things built up before the overthrow of the Shah in Iran.

They have a resource everyone (supossably) needs, and they have a monopoly on on the market. They can charge what they want, it's not their problem. It's the rest of us who backed our way into the a corner and now are crying there's no way out.

We've had hydrogen fuel cell technology since the 1960s, we've had electric vehicles longer then internal combustion, The model T used ethanol, We've had solar technology for decades, propane, nitrogen, LPG... the list of alternatives is almost endless and we have known about them for hundreds of years. There is only us to blame for our dependence on oil and it's not up to us to determine the price.

I think the US should cut the price of their F35s, I mean, why should they be allowed to make a profit on them?

Do you think the Donald Trumps of Dubai will ever understand your friends grocery problem? History has shown that we become complacent when gas prices drop. Without the sense of urgency we will never fix the problem. I'm not saying lets have $4 gas. But when it starts approaching $1.50 I can assure you that people will not prioritize the issue. This will forever leave us at the mercy of an bass akward civilization.

I'm pretty sure my friend represents a whole lot of people because I know many more just like him. So along with hundreds of thousands of American's just like him, they can't see a price increase just for the hell of it. T H X A W S M.

Why the fuck do people deserve to suffer for no reason? So the government can spend more money they don't have on alt fuels? Bullshit. Do it while keeping prices low.

Even with alt fuels, higher gas prices will always effect the economy because all the means of transportation agriculturally and comercially are NOT natural gas civic. Higher transportation costs = higher prices for products. If you think personal transportation with alt fuels is years off, I'd like to know the estimate for a cargo tanker or plane or 18 wheelers being mainstream with alt fuels is.

BTW Have you stepped into a supermarket lately and checked out the prices?

Wrong. Your friend, and even millions like him don't mean shit when we start talking about billions. The world, the environment and a sustainable existent is much more important then a few people who can't afford food.

OPEC has no obligation to any but themselves, they can charge what they want and how much they want to sell and the rest of the world is going to have to pay until we find an alternative fuel source. As I said in my previous post we have know about alternative fuels for hundreds of years and electric power was even invented before the combustion engine. It is and always has been the western worlds complacency, short sighted politics and the need for a quick buck which has drowned any real research into alternatives. And in a democratic country, it comes solely down to the people who voted (or don't), it is up to the people to express what they want and use their votes to influence government policy, and as I bet you nor your friend have given a shit about oil prices or alternative fuel sources (even after the 70 oil crisis) the reason they are suffering now comes straight back to them and their inaction.

Now we are in this mess the government can spend what little money it has available to subsidies fuel prices so that your friend can afford college (which should be free anyway), which would create a nice deficit in the budget, send more money overseas, increase the countries liabilities and stimulate other peoples economies but it would give you all some short term relief but get you know where in the long run when the next oil crisis happens (and it will). Or they could bite the bullet accept some people will have to do it tough for a while, but put that money into subsidising research and development of alternative fuel sources, thereby creating new jobs in the economy which creates tax revenues, removing the reliance on oil in the future, saves the environment, creates a whole new industry which will be worth trillions of dollars as the entire world will wont in on it sooner or later. There is only one logical choice and I'm sorry but for the good of the country and the world your friend is going to have to suffer.

It's thinking like this which has kept the alternative fuels from being researched and put in place decades ago, it's about time people stopped thinking with their heart and only ever look to the short term and consider the longer term effects of their actions and make a logical decision.

Wow.. that's extremely narrow minded. Remove the whole planet issue if need be (who needs it anyways?). This problem transcends this issue of global warming and the future of our economy. Your friend homeless < my child & countless generations forever after being at the mercy of Saudi Kings.
