The right wing BNP's popularity has been on the increase over the past 5 years. The current government is monitoring members and associates of members and compiling data on the BNP. The list has just been leaked on the Internet.

"The list, which dates from 2007, has the names, addresses, jobs and phone numbers of more than 10,000 people."#

Labour are also trying to have members kicked from trade unions.

Personally I despise the BNP and what they stand for. But they are an official political party subject to the same rules and protection as other parties. Police officers are banned by the government from joining the party, the government is trying to ban members from being in unions.

Society and lack of action by the Labour government has created the ideal conditions for a far right party to flourish. Lack of monitoring of immigration. Lack of investment in working class areas, not enough programmes to help integrate immigrants etc. The BNP are only popular because there are people to vote for them. People are allowed to have a choice. Its up to the government to create conditions were segregation and racism don't flourish. When it does, its hardly wonder a party like the BNP rises. These voters have made a democratic choice to vote for the BNP. The BNP are taking votes from Labour in inner cities.

So is it right for the Labour Government to do their best to crush this legal political party who are in fact a political rivals?
Is this democracy?

There's actually quite a few BNP people in my area....

That's still fucked up though, I fucking hate the BNP as much as anyone else. But to have your name and address listed like that, surely there's some law preventing that.

All this anti-BNP stuff is only going to make it better for them. Although they should all fuck off regardless. It's a dilemma, even though I hate these guys, they still deserve to be treated like everyone else, it's only fair.

ot: A party like the BNP has come about because of the current Labour governments decline imo. Labour moves right, so the traditional right compensates by moving even further right.

No matter what they deserve the same treatment as the other parties. They are taking Labour votes pure and simple.
Either take them through the courts and make them an illegal organisation or leave them be. Labour know the BNP are doing nothing unlawful as they would have provided evidence so. All the BNP has done is use words, simply exercising their right to free speech. That must be protected, no matter how vile.
Labour have initiated a dirty tricks campaign against them because they can't shut them down legally.

hmmmmmmmm I dunno tbh, Look how many innocent Catholics were murdered here because of information leaked from the RUC by people within the organisation who harboured far right sympathies. would you want your son being taught by some racist cunt? would a black / ethnic child receive a suitable education from a racist teacher member of the BNP? would a black member of a trade union get the necessary backing from a racist BNP cunt that was in a position of power within their union?

Watching the news24 most of today and they have had ppl on the list on. Some of them come across quite genuine saying "we are not racist, we are against Labours immigration policy" They aren't doing anything about it and the BNP say they will limit immigration.

These people say they are in the BNP because they are concerned about immigration, which is valid. The UK has immigration issues. Having immigration concerns doesn't make you a racist.

I still say its up to the current government to provide conditions were the far right doesn't flourish. The fact it is in a revival points at a broken so city.

I hate the BNP, but I'm sure there are a lot of perfectly normal, non racist people on that list. If the BNP were a skinhead gang that went around beating up foreigners, then I can see the use in having their addresses put up. I'm still not sure that I would agree with it, but at least it would make sense. As it stands, they're a legitimate political party that being a member of does not necessarily make you a racist cunt. Even though I still think you are.

If you have so many people concerned about the immigration policies, maybe labour needs to take a look at them.

no matter what veneer they put on it, once you scrape the surface underneath is a seething mass of ignorant, racist, sectarian, bigoted cunts & maybe a few poor missguided fools that are decent people..

woah, don't get me wrong, harry was stupid, but what the BNP do is IDOLIZE the nazi's, have photo's of Hitler etc, whilst harry wore this outfit at a fancy dress.

BNP are a legitimate political party and contrary to popular beliefs their only policy isn't "Get rid of all non British Whites and then err, go invade Africa". It's unfair to have your job taken because of a leak like this, it really is. A lot of people support the BNP in high positions, they're a rising party that have had to go slightly left to fit in. The more you isolate them and don't let them join in talks and elections, the more they flourish...

I would sue for millions if I lost my job because of this. How many Police officers/teachers are racist and vote Labour/Conservative? You vote for who you want.

If BNP actually got as decent leader that wasn't into the Nazi's they'd have a good chance of making this into a 4 party system.

While BNP are pack of tossers, what Labour is doing goes against the basic precepts of human rights - it is a form of political discrimination and despite BNP's views, Labour should be stopped from doing this.

Being on the other side of the world I can't say any BNP members live near me, but a few years ago I was dating a chick whose old school was run by the founder of the New Zealand National Front - the NZNF and the BNP have a few common historical roots back in the 70s/80s and have...a lot of views in common.
