I'd like to know.

Good leaders only get to stay 8 years, but bad leaders get office for 8.

Piss off term limit, its not the presidents fault the people are too stupid to vote for someone better.

Top level politicians have mastered the art of campaigning. Without a mandated term limit it would be the same stagnant ideology getting "the funding". Sometimes you have to flush the toilet water.. even if it's shit going back in.

I agree, just look at the Senate.  The power of the incumbant becomes almighty, while they grow accustomed to their power and the perquisites that come with it, and are willing to fight as well as cut unsavory deals to keep that power.  A lack of term limits is one of the major problems in the US political system today.

How about on local issues?  You have a person in office terming out that has a dynamic working knowledge of the issues at hand with positive community backing, who would be reelected hands down landslide, but.....

Ideally, they're bad. Realistically, they're good. Can't let one person brainwash the nation.

Same on local issues.  You can be a whiz-bang mayor, but you can't let the city become your personal fiefdom.

I don't understand though.  If the people want you to run their town -then...... . .

Let's just put it this way, Machiavelli would be utterly opposed to term limits.

I think all elected officials should be subject to a two term limit.
It would cut down on corruption, feather-bedding and career politicians.
It would mean politicians would need to stay connected with the real world.

Do you honestly think any politicians would vote for a limit on their own cushy jobs?

Says anyone who isn't interested in monarchy, oligarchy, despotism, dictatorship, corruption, etc. - unlike Russians for instance. It's a vital defence against populism.

Can you get enough done in 4 years? Is 8 years (assuming u get 2 terms) enough to enact all your policies?

Term limits are necessary for healthy democracy and so in that sense are good.

An absence of term limits would pave the way for all the bad forms of Government i.e dictatorships, monarchies, oligarchies, stratocracies, plutocracies... thanks but no thanks.
