Since they were bailed out, no one will learn anything.
Why should banks be able to spend our money this way?

Whatever happened to being fiscally responsible?
Oh yeah I forgot as long as the government is willing to pay for failure, it will continue.
Company no make money, company close. Until this simple way of thinking comes back, we are in trouble.

Here's an idea...  outlaw paybacks and the bribery aspect of lobbying.

If a cause wants to get the attention of a politician, they can do it without granting favors and bribery.

There is a rush to get the money we lent them so they can lend it back to us at a prime rate. Sweet feathery Jesus this sucks.

Time to nationalize these fuckers so that the public owns them.  It's the only way we'll get our money back.

No that just makes sure the fuckers in the government can squander and steal the whole of it. How many sets of books do we have now .. 4?

Normally, I would be totally against nationalization.

However, since it's clear that lobbying ensures the socialization of losses and privatization of gains....   I'm now in favor of socializing gains as well.

Going halfway only fucks the majority of the country in favor of the elite rich.   We currently have a corporate fascism in terms of economic policy -- far worse than any socialism.

I'll agree that we have the worst of both going on. We just elected a guy that agreed with the bailout too. Handing this government anymore power isn't the best alternative though.. jesus, look at their record ffs.

I'd rather elected officials control the money than corporations.

A proper revolution might fix it. I can honestly say I'm at least more optimistic because it at least seems people are paying more attention.

Don't nationalize the financial institutions, let them live or die on their own. A bank with $100 billion of debts it can't pay is useless to the economy. Let it die. Hank Paulson won't even consider letting his old Wall Street pals go out of business, but the fact is the country doesn't need them if they don't have money to lend or invest. Trying to rescue them just means pouring money into a black hole.

And the government should start a new bank with $700 bn of capital. Set sensible regulations on it so it can't make risky investments. Force it to act like banks used to--careful. The new bank will lend money and the credit freeze will thaw.

The sad thing is that banks are getting this money and they STILL are not lending it. Why would they? The dollar has actually made some gains recently. That pays a huge return to them. Now that their losses are covered they can go after the home owners that are behind.. no matter the fact that the housing market is already flooded. They get to have it both ways now. They forced you to bail them out. Now they can force you out of your home. I hope to hell the government pays attention to who is lending and who is double tapping us. Doubtful though.

I may have a good reason to leave this country afterall...   and it won't have anything to do with a particular party but rather the system itself....

sad really...   Maybe Obama was elected too late in the game to fix things.  I guess we kind of needed someone like him about 30 years ago.

Btw I speak from absolute experience here. I see this everyday. Since the bailout banks have been less willing to lend. I am a genuine proponet of less government. But if you are going to hand out checks in the hundreds of billions you had better have more conditions than what the recovery package offered. We've been bamboozled, big time.

I can't answer this now. No one can really. Until they actually put their ass in the chair and delegate we won't know the truth. The Presidency is a position like no other.
