So I was pre-flighting my plane and I hear this incredibly loud noise overhead.  I look up just in time to see the following plane skid into the pattern and land

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/video … 3536038402 (need facebook account to see)

The F-18 is a beautiful friggin airplane.  Its helluva lot bigger than it looks too; it was as tall or even taller than most of the business jets on the field.

Video my dad took of flyby

Holy shit on a shingle.  My friend got a video of it taking off.

Here are a few other military aircraft that paid a visit over the past year:

Some Canadian jet, I think it is an F-5, but not sure.

There have been a lot more, but I am not always quick enough on the draw with my camera phone.

I love working at the airport

Sick! There's no AFB's around here really, plus MacArthur/ISP and an ANG Base is right near us, so I doubt we'd ever see any military planes.

We do have a P-51 that some airshow guy flies around a lot though. He's prepping for some shows coming up in November so when I'm in class (our classrooms are at the airport) I usually hear him doing some runs.

Although, when I flew for the first time we did a stop and go (or whatever) at the ANG Base and saw an Apache and 3 C-130's. Was pretty sick.

I see Cobras, C-130s, and F-15s all the time flying around here. I live about 5 miles from Dobbins.

I misread that as Dobbies for a moment and then wondered why aircraft would be at a garden centre

If I travel a wee distance I come near to RAF Boulmer which has Sea Kings and other jets like Tornados and I remember seeing a Buccaneer once.

That's pretty cool. The canadian jet is a CT114 Tutor, the same jet used by the Canadian Snowbirds Aerial Acrobatic Team (our equivalent to the blue angels). All I see areound here are C130s, very rarely an CF-18, saw the snowbirds last month fly over, and I saw a Griffin (basically a Canadian Huey type helicopter.)

We've got Andrews AFB and Bolling AFB nearby, but I think I've only seen fighter jets once - on or a bit after 9/11. Other than that, just the usual assortment of Blackhawks and MH-53s and Marine One.

I just saw 'bout 8 'somethings' fly over - 'somethings' 'cos it's night, so they were just lights - big n' slow though...

(this place is nearby, so could be anything, but most probably 'snoopy's)

Is it a Ct114? I'm pretty sure those are seated side by side. I think it's a twin seater version of the F-80 (The Canadian designation I don't know) it looks pretty beat up so I'm assuming it's an old ejection seat testbed.

edit: yep it's a T33, the trainer variant of the F-80

Today I had a random Blue Angels flyby while getting out of my car at my grocery store. Not sure what they were doing but it's always cool to hear those guys tearing through the sky.

This just came today and did some pattern work.  There's not even an airshow going on or anything.

There wasn't one in Tampa neither. That's why I found it odd. Maybe they (Blue Angels) were welcoming General Petraeus to Tampa.
