I don't understand why more people aren't unnerved by the choice of Biden as VP. As previous topics have discussed, the guy is kind of a douchebag. He seems to me to be the opposite of what the charismatic, full-o'-hope Obama needs. Hell, I think McCain (Senate McCain, not presidential election McCain) would make a better running mate than Joe.

Separation of powers is a wonderful thing...so long as one is not a rubber stamp of the other (see 90's versus 2000's).
do you think this is the reason why there is never any "real" change?
If the President and Congress are from the same party...no, you won't see any "good" change at least.

During the 90's (one of the most prosperous times in America), there was a Republican-led Congress and a Democrat Presidential administration. It wasn't all sunshine and puppies, but it was better than the 2000s "rubber stamp" years with both Congress and the Executive Branch being Republican.

I think there might have been a situation similar to the 90s back when Reagan was in office, but I don't remember off hand.

and he has been wrong like i dunno, most of his career.  also, he has been in DC longer than mccain.  so, if obama was killed, biden would be the prez.  and that does not concern people because they dont know shit about him.  they only vote for obama.

Looking at the powers that the Prez actually gets, summarized from Wiki they seem to be the following:
source

1.The president is the chief executive of the United States, putting him at the head of the executive branch of the government, whose responsibility is to "take care that the laws be faithfully executed".

2.  Ambassadors, judges of the federal court system, members of the Cabinet, and other federal officers are all appointed by the president, with the "advice and consent" of the Senate, granted by a simple majority.

3.The president can further influence the legislative branch through the annual constitutionally-mandated report to Congress, which may be written or oral but in modern times is the State of the Union Address, which often outlines the president's legislative proposals for the coming year.

4.If Congress passes a bill that the president disapproves of, he may veto it; the veto can be overridden only by two-thirds of both houses of Congress, making it substantially more difficult to enact the law.

5.( and the big one)the president commands and directs the military and is responsible for planning military strategy.

Hope I havent missed any here. From this it seems that the POTUS is much more than just a figurehead. Apparently he is given control of 4 million people from the executive branch.

McCain does seem like a decent man, however I would be mortified if Palin gets anywhere near the powers listed above.

And what we think of the next election results
McCain/Palin - More of the global instability we have now and a Christian fundamentalism as bad as it's ME counterparts

As it looks right now this may infact be the most important election ever and the entire globe is watching ...

Could be the fact that the poster completely overlooked some and oversimplified others of the accomplishments of each of those officeholders. Not to mention completely mischaracterizing the current election choices.

How's that for explaining the numbing stupidity of that post?

@FEOS:

You can't possibly have understood the post at all seeing as you so thoroughly misunderstood it, what i posted is Some examples of how the Eurotrash views it hence it's not my personal view but the kind of answer you would get asking a question about a well known American President anywhere in Europe unless they have above average interest in US Presidents.

Yes i missed a few and deliberately skipped some other, it was an example not a quote from wiki - and if you have read any other post about McCain/Palin on the forum you would know the reference to fundamentalism was directed at Palin and not McCain ...

The post stand as it does because it shows what impressions your governments leave behind as its legacy to the rest of the world ... we may discuss the Presidents one by one about their detailed achievements right down to what kinda toilet paper they used in the White House but that doesn't change the fact that the examples i listed is what many non residents to the US believes ...

Ford is not a well known President and neither is Carter or Eisenhower hence why i left them out ... i could have listed all 43 but i didn't ...
