Magix Music maker

Then there's that free one that I forgot the name of... Was it Fruity Loops?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

How serious will you be taking it?

It's just for my own use, I'm a big fan of d'n'b but artists are "rare".
So making it by myself could be fun

I got FL, but it's quite hard to use

Fruity Loops is easier than the most that I have used.

It takes a while to learn how to use it.

My friend uses Sony Acid Pro 6, with some purchased upgrades added on to it...I'm not an audiophile so I can't personally compare it to other programs, but music is a pretty serious hobby of his and he tried several other programs before settling for this one.  To really get the full effect of it he also ordered some specialty sound card with lots of audio inputs (not to mention the cost of monitor speakers, the actual instruments, etc.), so you'd be looking at somewhere around $700-1000 for just the right software and interface.  This may be way more than your interested in...

Logic if you have a mac.

I used it throughout my music technology course. It's brilliant software.

Fruity Loops is about the easiest one out there to use...
