Maybe I'm getting too old for these teen-sensations
really?
really. Face it, the books are just another fiction series meant for teens. Don't give me the adult theme bullcrap because I am simply not buying it. Sure, people over 25 still read harry potter, but that doesn't change the target audience.
As far as the movie goes: If you've seen battle royale you know this is just the same. A western (holywood) version if you like. The camerawork wasnt adding anything. It was just incredibly annoying. there were maybe 2-3 scenes that had a clear shot in them and didn't look like they were filmed by someone laughing hysterically with their finger stuck on the zoom-in button.
The acting was what you would expect. Words such as average and mediocre come to mind.
And the story, well, as i said before: It's basically a hollywood version of battle royale. i.e: they added cheesy hollywood crap and clichés but minus the schoolgirls getting raped by tentacles.

Maybe I would have been able to enjoy this more if it wasn't made out to be the next big thing after harry potter and twilight. honestly i couldn't care less about any of them.
The premise of both films is similar but the films themselves are really different. One is more about the characters and the over-arching plot. One is about shock gore. The action in Hunger Games is meh at best but I found it just as enjoyable as battle royale and definitely more rewatchable.

Probably the best adaptation of a book I have seen. Couple things missing that you would have understood better by reading the books, and could have done without some of the zoomed in shaky cam action scenes... One or two minor things that they didn't do right (see spoilers). With those corrected might have hit a 9. Otherwise, lived up to my expectations.

Spoiler (highlight to read):

Missed some of the desperation feel by the everyday people.
The fence around the district in the book was like a 15 foot tall electrified chain link and razor wire fence... That added to the "trapped" feeling. The one in the movie was like a cow pasture barbed wire fence.
The mockingjay pin in the book was her "token" that became a symbol. In the movie, she had it covered up and hidden the whole time... So why would the people all associate it with her as much?
the desperation? the opening 30 mins or so where they lined up for the "reaping" was fantastically done.  the demeanour of the people, the colour of everything (pale blues, grey, brown), the peacekeepers, everything was shot so well.  the shaky cam became annoying after a while though.
i thought the contrast described in depth in the books between the bleak cities and multicoloured, over the top capitol was done perfectly though.

definitely one of the best book adaptations ive ever seen, though i read the book a good 3-4 years ago so i dont remember everything.  id give it a 9/10

I agree with you to a point. I felt the same way, particularly about the colors... BUT there wasn't much more than feeling like it was just a poor mining town except they had a reaping where other than the little sister, everyone was just robots. In the book they really felt oppressed. In the movie they felt more like country bumpkins. Like I said, the fence alone would have made a difference to me, I think... A feeling of being trapped and forced to work rather than a drab coal mining town going about their daily business. Even playing out the scene of her starving a little bit more, rather than a couple or shaky lame what exactly is going on there is a sad girl in the rain flashbacks might have made a difference. I think the future movies will play to that more, once the real Peacekeepers show up in town...

The friends I went to see it with that didn't read the books didn't really feel the desperation at all. They were all like "Why don't more people just go out past the cow fence and hunt and gather? Food it just right over there..."

Hunger Games

Shit/10

It raised zero emotions for me, except for after the games began, when I couldn't wait for all of them to die so I can get out and drink.

It was just bad.

- For movies brilliantly divided into two parts (buildup/training - main event), watch FMJ.
- For movies with the weird 70's style acid-dystopia, watch Rollerball. (The one from 1975, not the shitstain of a film they did in 2002).
- For movies with a believable strong female protagonist, watch Aliens.
- Fuck it, watch Twilight if you're into that whole thing of teens staring each other in the eyes while shit happens around them. Fuck if I am though.
- What else? Oh yeah, The Running Man.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
She had a funeral rite for the kid for an hour while the other pseudo-psychotic teens were hunting her. Wtf. And thank god for the magical skin cream that fixes everything; If you're gonna try to add some sexual tension, rubbing vaseline on ones bleeding forehead doesn't really do it for anyone. And what about the magically appearing Manbearpigs? Fuck me.

I would like to have seen more from the Districts, some empathizing of Rues father when he breaks down and a riot starts. All they did was shout a bit, then some water was sprayed, and bam, cut back to the teen-forest.

I identified with this movie as much as one could with this scene.

Come to think of it, having Ricky there, running in the woods could've made the movie much better.

I can't understand the good reviews Hunger Games has gotten. I'm sure the books are good for their demographic, haven't read them, won't read them either (because I'm 31 and cynical). I can just hope that Prometheus restores my faith in that good sci-fi films still can be made (Fucking Avatar).

I'll end this review with two words.

The Muppets: 8/10

Never liked the Muppets... Didn't expect to like this. Didn't really want to like this... Laughed a lot and really enjoyed it. I think you would have to be in a bit of a silly mood when you watch it to really enjoy it, but honestly, I wasn't, but the movie put me in a silly mood. I had fun.

That is the trailer they banned and the scene they are removing from the movie...  Apparently leprosy groups don't like leprosy being portrayed as bad. So... Leprosy! Yay!

Gf dragged me to see Hunger Games. 4/10 only because Jennifer Lawrence is smoking hot and Woody Harrelson has a prominent role.

she looks hot there. but in more standard non-promo photos she looks like she has a bit of a fudgy face. like she hasn't quite matured or grown into it yet. not that i'm complaining all that much.

She has a near perfect body. Hips, tits, ass, slim waist. She grew on me as the movie went along.
