The Sunset Limited
7.5/10

I liked this one more than I'd thought, and I'm curious what others think...Anyone else seen it?

I did. It's pretty good. I really liked the ending because
Spoiler (highlight to read):
it didn't have a happy Hollywood, mr. white sees the error of his ways ending. In the end they are both right back where they started and neither sides view is validated and it's up to the viewer to decide who was right.
I think the previews for it was a bit disingenuous though.

The trailers make it seem like a comedy when it's a serious drama about life and death.

I see a movie on the shelf called 'Hangover' and my first thought is 'dumb guy flick.' Then I skip it.
dumb move, friendo.
If I have to watch 100 dumb guy movies to find one gem, that's still about 200 wasted hours of my time.
Hangover is a good movie is my problem, but maybe you prefer a Gangs of New York type of guy flick. hee

The King's Speech - 8/10.

don't really have much to say about it, afterwards. it delivers exactly as you expect, eloquently, and there are no stutters in the film itself. i can't say i was particularly "wowed" by any of it, and the necessarily 'climax' at the end didn't, well... feel all that climactic, to me at least. of course the acting was very good, but then again i don't see any special merit in getting helena bonham carter, the daughter of aristocracy, being hired to play... aristocracy. the movie was solid, but not stellar.

put it together, got it.

The title "Black Swan" is more than a literal representation of the movie's meaning.

In reference to Black Swan theory.. I seriously doubt most people did. I could be reaching for something that wasn't intended though.

i'm familiar with it, but then again i've written (or had been writing) some 16,000 words dealing with epistemological issues and techniques such as that. to be honest, it's an over-elaborate theorization of something that everyone understands, anyway; it's just putting a name on that which people are familiar with.

I don't think most people are (aware of the connection) tbh. I think most viewers went "Black Swan" .. oh look she wants to be a Black Swan. Maybe I just hang around with a bunch of idiots.. lol

That's pretty much what I thought about it

I don't think it deserved the best picture oscar, that should have gone to black swan.

Saw Kung Fu Panda 2 with the kiddos today.

I'd give it a 7/10. On par with the first one.

Very touching subplot regarding adoption. And considering two of my kids are adopted--from China--it was even more so.

Great film noir from the late 40's. Solid story, great acting by Cotten and Welles and a fantastic ending.

Was pretty epic, the doctor was a pretty weird addition to the cast, but gave it a different feel.
