I went to see The Fighter just recently, and it's definitely a great film. I advise anyone to see it - personally I'd rate it 8/10. Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg are absolutely excellent as an acting duo. Bale plays Dicky, a former famous welterweight boxer who became a crack addict, Wahlberg his younger brother Micky, a welterweight boxer as well. The movie follows the relationship in between the two and that of their white trash family in Lowell.

The portrayal is absolutely brilliant, a lot of good/funny moments - different about this 'boxing movie' is that the boxing matches themselves are more in the background of the story.

The trailers don't do the film justice, honestly just go see it, I guarantee you will love it.

3D didn't add too much extra, to be honest.

Tron 2 - 7/10

Visually impressive but hardly as unique as Tron was when it came out. I know I'm comparing apples and oranges, but I think they chose the Lucas way and focused completely on special effects.

Definitely not Malick's best, but still solid.

I think (considering how much the film mirrors the original) that they wanted to give fans of the original a good graphical update, and that was a major focus.

And I think it turned out well. Not groundbreaking like the original but fun and very cool to watch.

the original Tron was groundbreaking, ahead of it's time. i'd agree, i liked the movie because i saw the original - if i hadn't, i would have thought it was visually appealing, with an unremarkable story. The only reason to care for Sam was Flynn, and the only reason to care for Flynn was the original movie.

showed zuckerberg as a nasty piece of work, but after reading his wiki, i'm not entirely sure how accurate the story was. good film, only meant to watch half then go to sleep, but ended up watching it all, engaging storyline.

Ip Man 9/10

Really well done, great kung fu sequences and camera angles. Acting was what you would expect from a Chinese movie, but then again it's a completely different culture.

Holy Fucking Shit.
I just watched that with my housemate this afternoon as well. Thought it was pretty cool as well, might watch number 2 later on.

True Grit. 7.5/10. Little girl annoyed me some towards the end. I need to watch it again though. Missed some of the dialogue because I was too lazy too get up to turn up the volume.

2001-A space odyssey 7/10

Very well made, especially when you consider that it was made in 1968. great camera play (to create the illusion of 0 gravity). It was a bit long and dragged on at parts, but that was part of what made it so great. As to be expected from a Kubrick movie, it had some wacky shit (the ending)

My flatmate just installed his new toy - a server running XBMC or whateverthefuck it's called. He's got about 550 movies on it so far. Whole bunch of crap ones but some good ones too. Now I just need to find some time to watch 'em.

Was bored so saw two cartoony ones the other night, 'How to Train Your Dragon' and "Megamind'. Both were pretty standard Dreamworks Animation fare. Enjoyable enough, 'Dragon' was a good adventure story with some fun action. 'Mind' tried to be a silly Superman spoof and most of the time its jokes didn't really hit home. Every now and then it'd deliver though. I'd give 'Dragon' a low 7 and 'Mind' a 5.5. Worth watching if you're bored.

By the way, is it just me who gets really annoyed when I notice the obvious "this sequence was made for those watching it in 3D" moments?

i don't get the statement "bored". probably because i misspent my youth, and probably because i'm on the other side of the hill and picking up speed - every second i'm awake is precious to me, and movies i watch are all 9/10.

because even when they're shitty, i'm giving them a NINE for my time!

They've invented these things called remote controls.
