my room takes a tremendous amount of power (lights, xbox, pc, 720w sounds, hd screen, guitar amp, various things plugged in), so that might have been something to do with it.

possibly. the psu in the case was given to me by a mate, he said his computer kept turning on and off lots, for no reason.

so maybe the psu thing was already fubar.

It may not be a total loss, how much could you salvage, was it only the PSU that was ablaze or did the fire damage other things?

it was like bang+flash then lots of smoke. not quite a roaring inferno - but everyone likes a little drama!

So unless the other bits could have been damaged by the psu bit going west, it should all be ok. i hope.

you find out whats wrong with it.  mine had an open tray error when I tried to play games.  dvd drive needs to be replaced.
