After this arrived today, spent quite a few hours listening to music and just got off from playing an hour and a half of BC2.Jaekus wrote:
Fucking massive difference in quality, highly impressed. Can't wait for the new headphones to arrive (currently using a cheapish Plantronics gaming headset).

Just bought a pair of Audioengine 2 speakers (in black).
Audiophile quality speakers that bridge the gap between computer speakers and home audio.
So many good reviews. Here's the intro and summary from Stereophile:

So many good reviews. Here's the intro and summary from Stereophile:
http://www.stereophile.com/budgetcomponents/1207ae/In nearly 25 years, it's been rare that I've reviewed an exciting breakthrough product. The Audioengine 2 is such a product - not because it performs at an extraordinary level (though it does), and not because it's such an incredible value for money (though it is), but because it creates a new market, a new application for high-end audio, and a chance for audiophiles to enjoy music in ways they may have never considered before.
[...]
I have never been more impressed with or more stunned by a component I've reviewed for Stereophile than I was with the Audioengine 2. The level of sound quality produced by this uncolored, detailed, articulate, and dynamic speaker, in all situations, was beyond reproach, and its ratio of value to cost borders on the criminal. It extended my enjoyment of music into a new realm of portability that I hadn't before thought possible. I can't think of a single reason why every reader of this magazine should not go out right now and buy a pair of Audioengine 2s. I couldn't decide which finish I liked better, the white or the black. I bought a pair of each.

Do they really make that much of a difference then? I'm quite tempted by one in that case.Jaekus wrote:

Yeah they do. Just more definition and clarity. More punch too. I just find myself listening to more music now, like actually sitting back and enjoying the sounds. There's a bunch of reviews around that all state similar things.
Bear in mind I'm coming from stock onboard sound, into my keyboard which my cheap headphones were plugged into
I think I'll notice it a lot more when the headphones arrive.

Sounds good, I might have to look into getting one, then. I've just got onboard audio with decent speakers/headphones, but I'd be interested to see how much better it can go.
It makes a big difference. It seems sort of silly to buy fancy computers to run fancy games at fancy frame rates, and then ignore one of the two output devices through which the entire experience is delivered.
These just arrived, plugged them in and put on This Boy's in Love by the Presets.Jaekus wrote:
