Did the mod. It doesn't leap out at me, but I can definitely hear more clarity in the music.

edit 2: ok, this is really growing on me. More authority in the bass, definitely more clarity in the mids and highs. The sound doesn't seem so veiled now - to an extent they sound like new headphones..

I find that there's something wrong with a sub-woofer, yes. Bass too is stereophonic, even though it's not always very easy to sense the directionality of it. I much prefer having two (or more, in a multi-channel system) good speakers that also do the job that a sub-woofer would, or at least having two sub-woofers in the system.Reciprocity wrote:

That only works if you've got your sub-woofer crossed very low - around 40Hz at most, I'd say. Additionally, to be able to do that, you need to have rather low-riding front speakers already, so the point of a sub-woofer often becomes arguably moot in such a situation. It also doesn't address the issue of phase cancellation when mixing together X amount of channels into mono; some music I've heard depends heavily on phase-shifting low frequencies between channels for effect, and such an effect would be completely destroyed by doing them in mono.Reciprocity wrote:
