Sweet amp. Always preferred Marantz over Denon, always gotten the feeling that Denon are a bit harsh with the speakers I use (wharfedales, mordaunt short and B&W) but when paired up properly that thing is a beauty.SonderKommando wrote:

Although looks like competition has finally caught up with Wharfedale and Mordaunt Short, with Arcadys and Monitor Audio blowing them out of the water for only £75 more.
Too bad they're both hideous speakers. But I'd definitely like to try out the Dynaudio DM/6's

Ordered a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 70s. I wasn't even shopping for speakers but Newegg had these on sale for $163 each with free 3 day shipping. Couldn't pass that up. They're at the top of Polk's cheapest product line, so we'll see how they sound. I've already got a sub so I'm not terribly worried about low frequencies. I'm sure the vinyl "wood" looks like shit, but I hate black, and for $320 I don't really care about their appearance.

Unless.... one set is for the 'tops' (including tweeter), and the other set is for the 'lows' (driver pair w/o tweeter....)

I should be getting them this evening. From what I've read, the two botton drivers are low frequency and the upper two drivers are the mids. Bi-amping on these separates the lows and mids from the tweeter.

its an Azur350A from Cambridge audio. Will use it to run headphones from the speaker terminals. Should be interesting to hear the results
So far I'm liking them. As with all the Polks I've owned, they were a little bright for the first 6-8 hours but they've mellowed out and the sound is definitely getting warmer. I've got them bi-amped to a Sony str-dh710 and it seems to be driving them fairly well, though I doubt my little receiver could handle much more speaker. Switching off my sub, I was surprised at the low frequency performance of these speakers. They don't come close to a 12" 500 watt sub but there's definitely enough bass there for casual music listening or movie watching.Morpheus wrote:

Saving Private Ryan and Avatar sound great with my whole system going. I wouldn't say these speakers are a huge leap forward for me, but there is certainly some improvement.
The wood grain vinyl exterior looks like something you'd see on a base model speaker. Not terrible, but not nearly as nice as my old set of RT600i floorstanders, but for $163 per speaker, appearance isn't my main concern. For the price, I'm not sure you could get a better speaker.
Now I'm debating if I should set up a 7.1 system. I've got a speakers, I've got the wire, my receiver can handle it, though I'd lose front bi-amping. I just don't know if I want to take up even more of my living room with speakers. Do you guys think it's worth it? The 7.1 systems I've heard have never really impressed me.
