Have you ever looked into a tablet for rotation/drawing in SW or CAD-type programs? My buddy uses one to manipulate his drawings in ZBrush, Maya and PS and he swears by it. I've seen him use it and it seems so easy and fluid to manipulate his drawings, and he swears by it, says it's far better than a mouse option. I've never seen a Space Explorer in use so maybe I'll bring it up to him.
My laptop is a tablet one.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

I am perhaps missing a plugin somewhere, but all my pen does is right click/left click... and SW I don't really sketch things, Its more of placing points to determine primitives. Even free form lines (which I just about don't use) are done point by point as splines...
So I find my pen more cumbersome and less accurate then a mouse.
The space explorer does not replace the mouse, but it allows me to rotate the part while I work on it and also allows me to rotate and move individual parts in an assembly. Really looking forward to that last part. trying to spin and flip a part with the mouse is a pain, and usually seems to require adjusting the view multiple times to get the part rotating about the proper axis (or not using the mouse at all, and thinking too much about how many degrees I want to rotate around each axis)
I have seen tablets used some in SW, so there are probably add-ins... but for what I am doing this thing should work pretty good. Really looking to be able to peak around my model as I work so I think this should be better to manipulate my view with, as its supposed to be "similar to holding the object your working with"
If your friend is interested, tell him to look into the navigator version as well. Its like $60, so really not too bad of a buy if you think it would be even kinda useful.
Very basic, but assignable keys aside... the 3d manipulation is exactly the same as what is found on the most expensive models.
Its just a heavy ass metal base, 2 buttons and the control cap.
I was looking pretty seriously at this even knowing I could afford the explorer, but in the end I am hoping I can work with my hands solely on the explorer and mouse, only going to the keyboard to dimension sketches.

that's right, apple fans! i'm going to rip the guts out and put them in the round file, and take a dremel tool to that shiny case
the motherboard was dead, and the case was payment for configuring a laptop for the engineer who owned it.
it is a beautiful case! the wife even let me bring it in the house, considering all the computer parts i've squirreled away!

I am afraid, good sir, that the establishment in question refuses to accept payment in gold bullion.CammRobb wrote:

Hey Mikkel, just letting you know the Antec 900/9002 isn't that good! You sure you wanna buy it? I had the 900 myself and it sucks immense balls! If that's on newegg which it looks like it is! There's a few Lian Li mid towers that fit in that price range and the full tower CM HAF is pretty close too I think!mikkel wrote:

Maxtor... uh oh I hope you didn't pay much for that, and I recommend backing up most important files on some other HDD. I have seen so many Maxtors die its not even funny anymore.

Agreed, maxtors are not a very brand.
I've got two maxtor IDE HDDS that are >4 years old still going strong. Relax, they'll be fine
It was £32. I has the reciept anyway
My SATA Maxtor drive has been going strong for the past 3 years.
