The way things are going, I'm not really sure if we'd mind handing it over soon.  A good portion of the border areas are becoming so fucked up, you might as well take them.  It would save us the trouble of having to police them.

Well, there would certainly be a creeping effect, but at the same time, some areas are easier to defend than others -- in terms of geography.

I'm not disagreeing with you; I'm just saying that, ethnically, parts of California may become so similar to Mexico that it will be difficult to draw a line between what is owned by America and what is owned by Mexico.

The thing is...  America is falling in its standard of living while Mexico is rising.  Eventually, we may meet in the middle economically, but this will take decades.  When and if it does happen, there really won't be much of a difference between us -- at least in the border areas.

Kinda like Asians round here, though they work hard, and I got a bunch of friends that are Asian. Just really shitty drivers. REALLY shitty. Had some lady get hit because this guy didnt stop, never stops, seems like none of em do....

LA was always a "mexican" city. Or more correctly, there was a spanish mission there for hundreds of years and the native/spanish mestizos that we tend to call "mexicans" "chicanos" or "latinos" maintained it as a center of trade for more than 100 years before the railroads and the major anglo-saxon arrival in socal. all of the oldest buildings in socal are adobe. the illegals in socal and the families that have lived there since before the whites are culturally integrated. basically, they feel like its as much a land for their people as mexico.

anyway, with that said, you make a good point: they are flooding into the area and the politicians responsible for protecting US land are doing virtually nothing to prevent it from turning into mexico. and this is a serious problem for anybody that lives there.

mexico is genuinely impoverished in many areas, and LA, the mexican city within US borders, is developing the same state of poverty today sort of like an open poverty control valve from mexico.

as of now, LA is hopelessly beyond its natural carrying capacity. the only reason why people arent dying en mass is the constant waste of water from the rest of north america. the colorado river has been dried, and hundreds of miles of new desert have been created by maintaining LA and las vegas. the land has almost no future. the biome previously found in that region, "coastal sage scrub" is almost locally extinct, good luck finding any of the celebrated vernal pools. the process of piping in water to that city is not sustainable. especially if the earth actually warms a bit, LA will be a giant death camp about as quickly as it takes for the dollar to dip below levels where paying 10x for water no longer gets the job done. LA only survives day to day because there are powerful white men in suits willing to shake hands each day and agree to waste a fuck ton of water in one of the least water efficient water projects in the country. it doesnt matter how many mexicans you put in office, if one day the shit hits the fan, and the rest of the west cant afford to ship all their extra water to CA, then those people will die/mass exodus.

so the whole matter of LA being invaded by mexicans is kind of lacking credence when you consider the history and likely fate of the city. if you think the mexicans are taking anything of value from the rest of americans living up in the US, then joke's on them.

people have been overpopulating those deserts and collapsing into obscurity cyclically for thousands of years.

by the way, i love the deserts in socal. i went to college near LA and loved camping and hiking in joshua tree, anza borrego, and some other random places. its such an extreme habitat and all of the plants and animals you see have one or several major adaptations to make it possible. there is something kind of powerful about immediately seeing the environment and heat that could literally take your life if you werent carrying your short term water supply. needless to say, i moved north as soon as i graduated. im glad i saw the region for myself, but i wouldnt count on it for my long term survival. not unless maybe i was a desert tortoise.

Are you stupid?  Do you think Americans are going to give up sections of their country just because the majority is populated by illegal trespassers?  Mexico is basically staging a civilian invasion and we're just going to let them?  I think not.
