The foul wasn't called because no smart ref is going to let the game be decided on free throws.  Don't blame the ref, blame Brent Barry for trying to draw a foul that will never be called.

Regardless, I thought that was a poorly officiated game.  Calls on both sides were pretty bad.

GO LAKERS!
"On both sides were pretty bad"? Really? Are you serious? I'll admit there were some that were bad, and it was on both sides, but it mostly went the Spurs way.

I do blame the ref though. That situation should have never happened, at all. Brent Barry should have never had the chance to try and draw a foul on Fisher. There are 3 refs on the floor, and not one could see that it hit the rim, even if slightly. I had no problem seeing it from across the room on my small TV. Another reason why they should use replays. The clock was stopped, and they had every opportunity to get a better look to prevent that situation from occurring.

How fair was the officiating in the game today?

not sure. i only remembered the game was on in the fourth quarter. what i saw was actually fair, what i would normally call a foul, i might not have called a foul last night, if you take into account that the refs generally let the game become more physical in the playoffs. i remember ginobli was defending kobe, and there were some arm slaps and a little bit of pushing, but the refs were consistent, and they didn't call it on the other end, which i'm fine with.

well, i thought i'd rez this thread, instead of making a new one, to see what you all thought of the game friday.

i thought it was really good, all except for the lakers losing part. i really figured LA would win, especially when pierce left the game, but dammit that guy is tough. he doesn't give up. i think if boston does end up winning the championship, he, not garnet, should get the finals mvp award.

Game was officiated poorly on both sides.  Paul Pierce is a baby.  Did you see him crying over that scratch to his chest?  Gimme a fucking break.  We'll see how injured he is tonight when he doesn't have adrenaline to keep him from feeling pain.  Lakers will win tonight, lose one at home, then go back to Boston to clinch.

Wow, worst officiated playoff game since at least Lakers-Kings Western Conference Finals Game 6, and the Lakers still almost won.

Ken, could you elaborate on the extent of the failure?

Look at the free-throws shot - it was like 10 (Lakers) to 35 (Celtics) or so.  Kobe took only a few.  Fouls weren't called consistently, and many should have been no-calls.  It was especially noticeable in the first quarter and first few minutes of the third quarter.

Regardless, the Lakers need to score more efficiently and in the paint.  Too much settling for jumpers.  And goddamnit, close out on the fucking three!

The disparity in foul calls is annoying. Fortunately, we should see games in LA that will either be equal or given to the Lakers.

i didn't watch the whole game, but i'd agree completely with you on the parts that i did see. i only caught the first half and the last two minutes. when they showed the free throw difference, i couldn't believe it. and it was like that the first game too, if i remember right. this is one of the most anticipated finals in a long time, and they are making it really boring when the calls as bad as they were.

hopefully that run i heard they made carries over into game 3 so this thing can get interesting.
