from my search the best companies are alienware and sager. the major difference is you get the snazy case for an extra $500 or so if you buy the alienware.

anyhow this is what i am looking at

cost   $3500

17" 1920x1200 screen
AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ dual-core processor
nvidia 7800 gtx pci-e 256mb
2gb ram
2 60gig 7200rpm harddrives running raid 0
8x dvd r/rw

i am looking for opinions and if anyone knows of any other companies that make a laptop compareable

thanks

i'd recommend contacting NASA to see if you can purchase some of those heat-shielding tiles they use on their shuttle.  i'd anticipate the bottom of that thing setting fire to pretty much anything it touches...including you.

well i had a Sager before and it was comparable to my current desktop. it did get a little warm but never had a problem with it.  the only problem was it got stolen right out of my house.  i was playing metal of honor on it warcraft 3 and even doom 3 with no problems

true the battery doesn't last for shit but like i said i am gonna be away from home hopefully for like 5 months because of my job.

I play on a Dell Inspiron XPS gen 1. It's a brick and it doesn't have a long batery life. But still a good system to play games.

The Dell Inspiron XPS gen 2 would fit your requirements... don't get fool by the fact that it use an INTEL mobility chip... it has a kick A$$ graphic card and I don't hear complaints from people using it.

Here's a great place to learn and ask questions:

Bad customer support...and you pay a premium for the brand...

And Alienware = Sager... same hardware, only the outside change
