I've often wondered: why is prostitution illegal, but porn is legal? Under current laws, paying for sex is illegal unless you film it and then sell copies of that film.

Why not just legalize and regulate prostitution? Proper regulation would involve making sure that prostitutes get regular checkups and that they are forced out of the business if they catch an STD. There is an area of Nevada that already does something like this, and so far, it's worked pretty well.

would never use such a thing myself but ....

I think it should be as long as its very well legally controlled to stop abuse of the girls (guys). Safer for all involved (violence and STDs etc)

In Iceland prostitution is legal IF:

1. It is not your primary income.
2. There is no third party making profit.

IE: If you are a dirty slut, why not make money off it?

edit: However, advertising it it illegal.

I don't follow you... There would be no need for illegal prostitution with this system in place... unless you are trying to catch an STD.

its pretty much legal here if it is a proper brothel
prostitutes have to undergo medical tests every month
brothels arent allowed near schools etc
it has cut down on the number of street walkers and the crime that is associated iwth it
the government loves it cause they make money off it
