I was wondering something about bloodtypes. Me and a friend are doing an assignment on bloodtypes.

a question:

a mother which has the bloodtype of A gets a child which has a bloodtype of O, which bloodtype does the father have. Am I wrong or is it impossible to get O unless both your parents have O bloodtype?

isnt O the dominant gene?

He could be A, B or O, as long as he has a recessive gene.

you're wrong A is the dominating gene over O so the parents are: Mother is AO and father could be anything as long as he has an O gene, the bloodtype O doesn't surface unless both genes are O (recessive) so if the parents were heterozygous (? spelling) with an O gene then it is certainly possible.

btw I had a test on this subject today

O is less common, and recessive. The father would have to be O+

Why is everyone saying he has to be O+, why can't he be O- ?

The mother could have the alleles AO and the father could have AO (Type A), BO (Type B), or OO (Type O) and the child could be bloodtype O.
