I'm currently deciding between buying a x45 or x52 joystick and throttle setup from Saitek.  I was wondering if any has used both and could give any feedback on if the x52 is worth the extra money and if that display thing-a-mabob (the scientific name for it) would actually serve any real purpose if BF2.

of course they are both good, but the game is bf2 not some kind of complicated flight simulater

they are great, but also overwhelming

and if you want one between those two, i think that little display thing doesn't serve any real purpose in bf2

I know they're overkill but I am the kind of person to bring a BFG to a knife fight so ...

also I'm leaning towards the x45 because my friend let me try hers and it was awesome actually controlling a jet in BF2 (shame she didn't let me play on my account though).

seriously, my $30 Logitech Attack 3 is way too much joystick for this game.  get whatever is cheapest.

I concur.

If you're only buying the stick for BF2 then you'll want a basic one.  I have a Logitech 3D Extreme (sans force feedback) and barely use the multitude of buttons (good stick though) in BF2.  X3 is another matter however...

I understand what you're saying about the multitude of buttons, I'm getting one of the stick and throttle setups because I also want to get a real flight simulator and I know that my Cyborg 3D Rumble Force won't cut it for a real flight simulator.

A reg. joystick would suffice. If you really feel the need for overkill then here you go. http://us.thrustmaster.com/products/d_prd.php?p=T84&fam=6
