i hooked up my 8800gt into an evga 650i mobo
everything was all nice and peaceful...
i turn on the computer and this fucking thing starts screaming like eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
i finally tracked it to the video card
and i was wondering why the hell did it do this and what any solutions might be

Did you remove the plastic that covers the fan?

Low power? Does the plug for the supplemental power carry the right voltage?

That's all I got.

Bump for other ideas.

You gotta cut off the end so it fits into your motherboard lololol jk don't do that.

I hope this doesn't happen to me, I'm building the same rig
Anything in its way?
Power supply large enough to handle it?

It needs power from your PSU. If you look at the back of the card (the side opposite of where a monitor cable is inserted) there's six little holes for a power cable from the PSU to plug into. The GT should also come with a small adapter in the box that will help fit the PSU cable into the card.

what's your psu? then take the 6-pin pcie power cable that came with your card and hook it up to one of your extra cables from your power supply.  like the others said.  get back to us if it didn't work.

Little off topic, but how is the 600w?  Ive got one of their 500w, been working great, and the mirror finish is   But ive been considering going up a power supply for the newer card and all the hardrives im running currently.

I remember it did that because the power cable on the GPU wasnt plugged in all the way, silly me.

Yeah I forget to plug in the power cord when putting a new card in or fiddling around a lot

its a 7800 though, i never thought it would make a screaming noise...

Good to know and good that its not something serious

Connect the PCI-E power cables to the card

Took me a while to realize what was wrong when I installed my first GPU that needed extra power
