The new card is smaller, faster, runs cooler, cheaper and consumes less power than the 3870.

What can you expect? THE 9600gt just raped the 3870's in the ass backwards.

On half of the occasions, it even performs faster than the 8800 GT.

Best bang for buck right now, hands down.

that is true. but saying that it is as fast as 8800gt is bollox. Since 9800GT is about the same as 8800GT.

Oooh, if that card comes out at under 150€, it's one hell of a buy!

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

well the G94 used in the 9600 is basically a G92 (used in 8800GT) with some stuff disabled

You can overclock the 8800GT to make up for the lower clock, but you can't insert more stream processors into the 9600GT
