uh oh, make sure orignal maps i.e unmodded have orig on the end, and the modded ones are the standard map names only.

I hope its not going to be like my Village map where some CTD and others dont'.
When i did that, I couldn't join servers that were running daqing etc, So i put Daqing_oilfields_1 on the modded one

Announcement

Movie work has been shut down due to the following reasons:

1. Not enough people (which has plauged us since day one).

2. Don't have access to modded maps in order to finish movie.

3. There still exists messing and tk, too much time wasted as a result.

4. Don't have parts avaliable to add to the completed footage i.e audio.

Until I can acquire what is needed, we're not getting anywhere so until further notice I don't see any point in hauling people out of a match they're enjoying or away from their favorite TV show to spend a few hours being frustrated by me getting annoyed.

I apologise to those who I have lost my temper with and also to those whose time I've wasted when they could've probably done something better.

Director signing off work for now.

True, so cut down the size of the movie. This has been in the works for what, almost a year? Adapt the script to suit, and use different camera angles to give the impression of a big firefight. That PLA fight scene on Songhua in the PLA base, with the capturing of the commanders we did a good few times.

M.O.A.B wrote:

This has only come to light recently, since mapping/modding has come onto the agenda. IMO, it is unnecessary and not needed (apart from MEC/PLA+US in same vehicle, but use the same idea as we did on Mashtuur, and avoid watching the person "get out" of the vehicle). Or, just have the vehicle stop, then switch the camera angle to the back of it with the people standing there. Easy.
Tampa was just an idea, it is not necessary and never originally played a single role in the movie. I only made it for some credit scenes. Daqing/DV/Songhua mods have come into play as of late. Ok, Daqing takeoff with two BH's, fair enough. But you could use half the people in them whilst they are in the air and use specific camera angles to avoid seeing those "missing people".

The script seems to be changing every week, with more and more being added, and I cant see both what for, and why you want to make it even longer.

M.O.A.B wrote:

I will say this for the one thousand, five hundred and fifty eighth time: TURN OFF FRIENDLY FIRE.

Messing will always exist: this is BF2, teabagging and hopping around is second nature to most players. Additionally, sitting/standing around and waiting for 30mins for a scene to be set up, every time, is very very boring. You cant expect people to stand in a single position for that long and not move an inch. Give people a position, they will remember it, let them run around and do whatever. Once they are all assigned, retake positions; explain whats to be done. Commence scene (perhaps restart round for a smaller BR file).

M.O.A.B wrote:

Fair point, but thats not a reason to stop work. So long as Fox continues to provide it to the scenes you edit, I dont see why they cant continue being made (or are all the scenes made now, and just awaiting audio??). That, or recruit someone else or use the standard BF2 sounds yourself: thats what I would have done from day1 anyway.

Very true, but you cant expect EU server admins who have FTP access to bend over backwards to accomodate these modded maps in the space of a few hours or a day or so. Unfortunatly, thats the way it is until/unless the EU gets a server admin with FTP access who is a lot more active and responsive to your requests (i.e. you).

In all honesty, im more annoyed that its all being called off for what, to me, seems unnecessary additions (which appear to me to have come in now you have a keen interest of mapping/modding BF2), especially when you consider just how long this has been on the books and how much time has been put into it.
The movie was originally Mashtuur, with a huge fight scene on the bridge (which we did numerous times) with the ending part being a fight scene at the lost village with the MEC commander running off along the riverbed as the ending part, leading to a sequel. That was epic, and to be the first movie.
The sequel was to be the Songhua part, with the assisination of the MEC commander (at the OCS airfield, and that was total win in terms of acting and script with the SU flying off into the tanks) and then an infiltration into China and a huge firefight with the PLA. Somewhere along the way, its been combined into one, with a lot of it cut out (ive yet to see or hear about that epic OCS airfield scene and the Mashtuur lost village), and a lot of new maps and ideas added. The original "Force Recon" squad members seems to have completely disappeared.
So, somewhere along the line, the entire script has been reworked, a lot of work has been binned/lost and the movie increased in length by I dont know how much.
It seems as if you are trying to add in too much to what was originally a much shorted movie, which evolved around a great idea.

IMO, you should go back to the original ideas with what footage you have, and work on one movie based around Mashtuur and the prisoner being taken (we've done the Zatar parts with the BH flying off to Mashy), with the PLA scenes as the sequel. In all honesty, it seems as if the task has gone out of all original plans and grown into huge proportions, which, I dont think we are prepared for and has made the (expected) movie time go from ~20mins to about an hour. At the end of the day, we either have an action packed movie thats short enough to watch and long enough for a decent storyline, or so long that people outside of the movie production will stop watching after 20mins - if they start watching at all. (If I saw an hour long video on stage6, youtube or wherever, I wouldnt watch it).

Look gary f that just keep on going, I mean we're near finished - we've filmed alot of scenes and truely, I enjoyed every minute filming (okay okay sometimes a lil boring setting up but hey, this was major fun IMHO.)

Finish this once and for all, be done with it. Don't quit when you're on 90%.

I'm afraid I completely agree, scale this thing down, put a lot of effort into editing and special affects (I and others, can really help you out here, and its not frustrating for anyone) and make it epic and watchable.

So, we will have a 10-20 minute movie, that has a good sotryline, good editing and is not too long.

Then, we repeat the process for the sequel.

It's true no one will watch an hour of this, unless they have been involved in making the movie. At least if it's a decent length, everybody on the forum will watch it and hopefully even people from outside the community will be interested.

Let's not get it wrong, this has been hella fun, and I think everyone admires what you are doing Gary, there is no way I could manage the amount of people you do and have the patience you do, and then to edit it all as well. But it needs restructuring, and needs to be way shortened.

The other day, I was consideirng to myself, to split the movie up, possibly inot three parts, Zatar/Mash then the assorted assassinations with OCS and finally Songhua.

The the SF movie which will run slightly longer than one of the three individaul parts but shorter overall will follow.

I got all depressed when I heard movie work was cancelling. Many of us have been with this production since the start when it was just an epic Mashtuur film. Now we've added so many other maps in the production, even including the PLA. These ideas are good, but best for a sequel. Snake and Justice make many good points.

Throughout our filming, new people have joined up and offered their time and help. Occasional silliness occurs, but it's not as bad as before where it took a lot of time to re-organize. I remember when you'd get tired out Gary with dealing with C4-chuckers and TK fests in production time, and we'd end the day. Maybe your tolerance has gone up, or we're getting more mature and disciplined.

I've decided that in order to break up the overall time, the movie will be split into three episodes.

Episode 1: Black Arrow

Involves Zatar and all of Mash.

Episode 2: Strike Back

Involves the three seperate assassinations and then OCS.

Episode 3: Ravens Call

All of Songhua and associated PLA map parts.
