I'm a Nascar fan, but I just can't sit and watch a whole race. If I'm watching a whole circle-track race, its at the local dirt track. On TV, I only watch the Drag racing.

Making his second visit in six days to Victory Lane, Carl Edwards triumphantly raised the glittering gold belt he earned at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  In a town known for title fights, Edwards emerged as a heavyweight contender Sunday.

"We do this to win. Winning these races is the greatest," Edwards said. "Winning a championship would be the ultimate. What we're trying to do is win the championship this year. That's our No. 1 goal."

Just three races into this new season, it's far too early to call Edwards the favorite to win the Sprint Cup title. And this win may not be controversy free: NASCAR discovered the lid was off of his oil tank box during postrace inspection and is taking the parts back to North Carolina for further inspection.  Five Nationwide Series crew chiefs were suspended six races each, fined $15,000 and their drivers were docked 25 points last month because their lids were loose during an inspection.

It could mean that Edwards, who won his second Cup race in six days, could have a short first visit atop the points standings. He holds a 21-point lead over Kyle Busch.

Roush better get fined too or something smells.

Yeah, I gotta agree Stingray...but I feel pretty sure NASCAR will hit the 99 with something.

I gotta say, for Las Vegas, that was one hell of a race.  Vegas is notorious for being almost as dull as Fontana...if thats possible.  This year, was far better than most.  It doesnt suprise me one bit that a Rousch car won those races, those teams are always strong there.  And honestly, out of the whole Rousch stable, I have to give it to Carl Edwards, all things being equal, to do the winning for Rousch.  Biffle and Kenseth have occasional moments of brilliance, but Carl is always there, out qualifies his teammates most of the time etc etc.  So really, him winning these 2 comes as no big shock.  I hate it for Rousch hehe I wish Carl drove for someone else tbh.

As far as the 88's weekend...
That boy needs to be thrilled with his result sunday, thats the best he has run at Vegas in years.  Kudo's to that team for overcomming a dreaded finish.

Vegas must address the issue of soft walls inside...if Jeff had hit just 5 degrees more to the left, that could have been really, really bad.
Kudo's to the COT tbh...

Over all, great race, lots of good results, and I love the fact the 88 is in the best points position for Hendrick

I wanna see the 100K fine and 100 points whacked off like the Cup teams got last year.  Let's see some even-handed penalties for once NASCAR.  Yeah Roush will whine, but that's the fun part.

Edit: Hear Waltrip's little rant about the COT suspension? Loved that ...

And another open wheeler bites the dust...

Personally, I think AJ MIGHT make something in this series (might) if he spends a couple of years running Nationwide cars.  I think atm, he's a menace on the track.  Good call by Red Bull imo.
Now for the bad news...they have plunked Skinner into the car.  His COT experience could be written on my thumbnail hehe.  And lets face it, when you look back at Mike's history in the Cup series, he too is a menace on the track...just a faster one...

And in penalty news...

http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/headlin … index.html

umm...about all I can say on this is...it looks like the Commision is setting a precedent here...the 99 may squeek by...
Anyone else get the feeling this may be a Roush-kateer year?

I don't see how they could possibly justify giving the 99 a pass when the cover was completely MISSING, not just loose.

AJ was thrown in over his head.  I hope he can make it.

As for Edwards looks like they might escape.

I hope Robby get's his appeal upheld because that truly looks to be the fault of Dodge and not Robby's team that put them in that position in the first place.

Agreed on AJ.  I think Robby will be successful with his appeal, it was clearly Dodge's fault with the labeling.

In regard to the 7 car, I truly think its gonna come down to "how much of a hardass does NASCAR want to be"

That team has a valid arguement, no doubt in my mind.
Sadly, so does NASCAR...

I'd like to see the difference in the oil containers, and the caps.  I'd also like to know what was the problem with the CC on this car...

http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/headlin … index.html

The 99 may have something to worry about after all.  Gotta keep in mind tho, these penalties are in Nationwide series cars, not Cup series COT's.
The older cars may have allowed an aero advantage with a manuever like this.  The COT, being a brick, may not have an aero advantage with the cap loose, or off.
The 99 is going to the R&D center to see what the poop is with it.

should be interesting, maybe we'll get to see Jack go on one of his tantrums hehe

WOOHOO!  Edwards gets whacked!   Take that ya dirty cheatin' Roush!  Guess NASCAR has the stones after all.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/story/7877810?MSNHPHMA

Edwards and car owner Jack Roush have been penalized 100 championship driver and 100 championship owner points, respectively. In the event the 99 team qualifies for the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, the team will not receive the 10 bonus points for the UAW-Dodge 400 victory used for determining the Chase seeding order. Crew chief Bob Osborne has been fined $100,000, suspended from the next six NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events, suspended from NASCAR until April 30 and placed on probation until Dec. 31.

*Cue whining, pissing, and moaning by Jack Roush*  Aw poor baby, got caught did ya?  Serves ya right!  Wonder what NASCAR didn't catch on that other win ...

Carl says it was an "honest mistake".  Roush says the bolts "worked their way loose during the race".  Riiiiiiight.  Why didn't everyone else with a vibration have the lid of their tank off after the race?  Hmm?  Geez, if they're going to cheat at least have a good excuse ready for the media.

Roush has accused other teams of cheating (and was proven wrong) and now he's getting nailed.  Bout time I say.  The 99 broke a rule, plain and simple.  They're cover was completely OFF the tank, not just loose.  This is a direct violation which is completely different from the penalties from last year where Hendrick and the 48 used shocks and setups that did not violate NASCAR rulebook.  In response, NASCAR made up new rules so they could fine and penalize them.  This violation by the 99 is as black and white as it gets.

buddy u must never go racing .... saturday nights and including nascar almost every single car has done something to stretch the rule book cheating in racing isnt the same as cheating in say baseball , football ....its part of the game u wanna be faster u gotta work around the rules

I'll repeat it slowly ... Chad Knaus used shocks and setups that did not violate the rules.  NASCAR didn't like a team outsmarting the rulebook so they re-wrote the rules and enforced them retroactively.  The piece in question wasn't one measured by a car template, so the Hendrick crews felt safe in adjusting it.  In contrast, the 99 violated a current rule, not a gray area.

Believe what you want.  It wasn't an area measured by the template.  Perhaps NASCAR need to move to a laser car qualifying system instead of a physical template.  Seems that would be a bit more accurate than measuring by hand with a hunk of metal.
