Pretty cool video of an F-16 intercepting a Leer jet over the Pacific Ocean.

At about 3 minutes in the F-16 appears to fly under the target plane, then around 4 minute mark you get a great shot of the weapons etc.

If you don't watch the whole thing watch from 2:45 to 4:14

It's worth 90 seconds.

F16 aren't based on aircraft carriers. And LHD's (carriers in BF2) actually can't carry any jet but STOVL jets.

Yeah I thought the same thing the way he was dipping his wings and circling the Leer. It always fun to play hide-and-seek with a multi-million dollar, armed to the teeth killing machine at the expense of an unarmed passenger jet......good times.

the ships in bf2 are not true carriers they are LHD (LHD source 2). I do not believe they have catapults and arresting gear necessary for F18 flight ops. They cannot field f18s.

Yeah, they're not big enough. LHD's are assault ships for choppers and VTOL/STOVL jets, like the F-35 and Harrier. The carrier required for the F-18 is probably close if not more than twice the length of the Essex on BF2. Always imagined what that would be like .

When the F-16 rocks its wings at the 1:16 mark that's the universal signal for "You've been intercepted" followed by a gradual turn to the desired course. The response of the intercepted aircraft should have been to rock its wings in response, which means "I understand and will comply". The F-16 rocks its wings again at the 4:01 mark and again turns for the Lear to follow. I don't know the back story on the video but the intercepted jet appeared to take a hell of a risk of being shot down by not complying with instructions. They must have been able to resolve any questions over the radio.
