Dogs are getting along better now:
They seem to think its time for a walk.

Nic, sweet dee-oh-geez. Those look like "I got to poop and pee" looks. Or I want to sniff and mark everything outside look.
Riding shotgun with mom on the way to a nursing home.
Jasper on the right takes ridiculously long pisses. Its hilarious because people always want to comment on how good he looks, and hes just pissing for a couple minutes straight in front of them. He is still puppy clumsy, I've watched him lift his back leg up so far to piss that he falls on his face.
Both of them love the snow so much, they spent most of the walk tonight eating as much of it as they could. I can use it in place of treats to get Jasper to come. I figured out that winter for them is like that scene from the simpsons when homer is in a chocolate world.

aren't you supposed to train your dogs to not sit like puppies? i'm no dog owner/trainer but i recall my dad saying something-something to me one time about his own dogs that it's good for some certain-certain reason to train them to not sit with such a puppy-style slouch. almost like the posture-snobbery of the dog world...

Most trainers suggest it for asthetic reasons, but there is no medical background to that as far as I know. When they sleep and chill, they sit all crazy anyways, can´t imagine that the commanded sitting upright makes a difference. My dog sits like that too, I actually love it, cause it looks so adorably clumsyUzique wrote:

While at it, my dog loves snow, too:

Young dogs grow out of "puppy sitting" majority of the time. If not, it can be a sign of an ailment. Kyppa has OCD of her hock and mostly sits with her leg out now. She'll be 7 on June 9th. Getting to be an old girl.

Man I love rotties, I've thought of getting one before, but I'm more partial to the mountain dogs. There was a Malamute X Rottie puppy up when I got Lexa. I'm glad I didn't get it in the end though, apparently it can be a very bad mix.
@Uzique: What Sisco said, also Jasper is still a puppy, just at the tail end of it. He had to have surgery on his rear right knee before I got him anyway, so there is an issue there. I give my dogs a bit more freedom on how I train them anyway, I like their personalities that way.
@Marley: How is Kypaa doing anyway? I guess you didn't have to remove the leg?

Had to have our 14-year-old lab put down yesterday. Fucking heart wrenching.

Sorry to hear that FEOS, Lexa is my first dog, so I haven't had to go through that and I'm not looking forward to it.FEOS wrote:

sorry to hear that, too, FEOS
thanks for clarification nic/marley. my dad keeps rhodesian ridgebacks and i think it's just a discipline/training thing, generally.
he used to have a chocolate lab and that would sit like a puppy all the time. cute!

Kyppa is doing alright. She limps bad after playing hard so she takes Tramadol and Rimadyl daily. We are going to just see how it goes for her. Trying to limit her activity is real tough. Kyppa has mastered the art of pouting since being a pup.Nic wrote:

FEOS so sorry ! Thoughts are with you. Never an easy thing. Hard not to be selfish and try to keep them going. Happy to hear you got 14 years. My Rottie Marley didn't make 8. She died a home next to me of cancer. I held on too long. Should of eased her pain 2 months before.

Our other dog (pics of both are in here somewhere--she's about 4) has been wandering around the house the last couple of days looking for her. Causes my wife to burst into tears every time she sees it.

for a fatty you're a serious intellectual lightweight.
poor girl
Really sorry again FEOS. I've been through it 3 times now. Hurts like a bitch.
Worst was our first German Shepherd, Maya. Such a loyal, beautiful dog. I was depressed for a solid week after she passed in '07. I pretty much grew up with her... we got her when I was in 2nd grade and she died in the beginning of 10th grade. It was really like losing a family member.
Thoughts go out to you and your family. I understand how tough it is on one.

Did someone mention snow? \o/
I had to laugh, the dog was asleep in it out the back and when he spotted me going for the leash he stood up, he was literally covered in a blanket of snow.
He likes to eat the snow aswell. Looks like he's on the cocaine.
Here he is having a roll.
