Diffrent games have diffrent weapons. Some games have main weapon as number 1. Some at number 3. Some games have 9 weapon slots instead of 5-6 etc.

Mouse 4 = Switch Weapon Up
Mouse 5 = Switch Weapon Down

Well, mostly scroll/number, but in BF2 I have the main weapon bound to my side mouse button. Also useful to switch firing modes.

Scroll if it's right next to the weapon I'm using, numbers for everything else.

Mousewheel. My oversized Del key bound to the main weapon. I don't pull anything else out in a hurry.

default controls for bf2
and i changed my controls for cod4 as close to my bf2 settings as i could (dont play cod4 though really)
