I got a problem with the voice you hear when you first create a new soldier, the voice that gives you in-game tips like "The UAV trailer beside you belongs to the enemy etc etc"

My problem is that I have over 100 hours on this new soldier and I cant get rid of that annoying voice.  Everytime I log into the game, the first time I go to choose a spawn point it tells me "apply to be commander and command the whole team etc etc"  I got 25 hours as commander I dont need to hear that again LOL

Is there a way to disable the voice you hear?

Also, my favorite/recent server screen doesnt show any of the servers that I recently visited or any of my favorites.  They have no problem saving as a favorite but as soon as I restart the game they are gone and wont save to my profile.

One other problem I got that you guys may be able to help with, I downloaded Highway Tampa and installed it and everytime I try and join a Highway Tampa server the game CTD
I tried to repatch, that didnt help. 
All this trouble started when I reformatted my pc, having over 2000 hours in BF2 I got bored with it so when I reformatted I didnt re-install BF2 for quite some time.  When I decided to reinstall BF2, I cant get my EF and AF to work it says I got to purchase them again, Highway Tampa wont work, I cant get rid of the annoying voice that gives you in-game tips, servers history and favorites wont save.  Im ready to give up on it all again LOL

I dont really want to reinstall BF2 again, but if thats what it takes I guess I will have to.  The annoying voice is my biggest problem to me right now, I never played much EF/AF anyways, but I would also like to get HighwayTampa to work again.

The voice is annoying, but it should go away once it has "helped" you with everything. If not, I'm not sure. There's no option to turn it off, so just hope it does go away.

Make sure you downloaded the full version of the map and not the beta. It's basically the same thing but you need the updated one.

I've heard to get EF and AF working again you have to go through each individual patch and install them with the corresponding patch. An epic failure on EA's part. Unfortunately, unless you want to buy them again at a store, you can re-download them through EA Link, EA's incredibly annoying download manager. Login to your EA Account and it should remember that you have purchased the expansions. If not, you have to buy them through EA Link or a store.

Yes I know what you're thinking; it does not control the volume of the soldiers talking, it does not control the volume of people using voip. That one volume control is simply just for the annoying old man.

You still might get pop-ups in the upper part of the screen, but at least the voice won't be there.

The fact that the annoying voice won't go away and your favorites aren't saved suggests that BF2 is having trouble writing to (or saving) files in My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles. I think the General.con file saves lines like GeneralSettings.setPlayedVOHelp "HUD_HELP_SPAWNSCREEN_KITTAB_pickArmyAndKit" after it has played the help voice for that item. General.con is also where your favorites are saved.

Is there something weird about that folder? Does it get erased repeatedly for some reason? Is it write-protected?

you know I never thought to check, and when I did sure enough the general.con folder for some unknown reason was set to "read-only"
I dont know how it got like that, maybe when I did the reformat....the profiles folder was one of the folders that I backed up onto a slave drive just in case I ever reinstalled bf2 again all my vid and controls would be set

as far as HighwayTampa, Im pretty sure its the full version and not the beta, so Im still stuck on that problem
