Maybe setting the size params at launch will help?

Code:

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024
For sf...

The same thing happened to me when I got my LCD, to fix it all I did was delete the BF2 folder in My Documents and the game worked magically.

MooneyB is the man.  "Magically" This fixed the same issue with my new Samsung Monitor as well.  Although when I got to the Multiplayer screen and only got 1 Ranked server *doh* forgot to install the latest patch.  Thanks for the help.  This should be put in a COMMON PROBLEM thread folder... very frustrating issue with a VERY SIMPLE FIX!!!  Mad props - if I could, I'd give you my 2 new unlocks bro.  Out

Got a Samsung LCD and Dual SLI Nvidia cards. I was having the crash to the desktop problem like you mentioned in below thread. I have been desperately trying to fix it without having to uninstall my monitor drivers every time (which also works, but sucks).

Then this...

i had the same problem. i guess you have a Nvidia graphics card, otherwise i wouldnt be able to help wink.

ok go to you documents/battlefield 2 folder. since im not at home i duuno the exact paths but there should be a mod or user directory and in there should be a default and a 0001 folder (0001 normally is your first account and so on).
ok open them and you should see a file named "video.con", that file is in 0001 and in the default folder and you have to do the next step in both files (or more if you have more accounts). open it with wordpad and in the middle theres an entry stating your resolution with refresh rate. change the refresh rate o 60Hz, i guess its set to 75/85 since you used a CRT before.

problem is that hte Nvidia drivers try to overrun the games refresh rates but the game doesnt do that so it goes back to desktop. took me 1 day after i bought Bf2 to ffigure it out tongue
i hope that was your problem and i could help.
...and it worked beautifully!!!! Thanks so much, man! You helped me so much I had to let you know!
