No, morals provide the bases of both law and religion. Religion is just an excuse to keep them.liquidat0r wrote:

And keeping laws is a bad thing?konfusion wrote:

No. But I'm saying that religion is not the base of religions, it's a mechanism of control.liquidat0r wrote:

Actually, no. Differing ideas = war. Therefore, there will always be war, no matter what. Unless you brainwash an entire population.pirana6 wrote:

Religion has outlived its purpose. There is no longer a necessity for it and personally I think it needs to be consigned to the trashcan of history along with theories on how the earth is flat, etc.
when the laws are upheld by archaic religious beliefs they are. or maybe i should take your mum to the middle east, rape her and then have her executed..?liquidat0r wrote:

I am atheist, as for as I know thats not a religion and I am thaught how to behave, what is right and wrong, etc.liquidat0r wrote:
It depends on how you look at it. The effects of removing religion would be:
- Several ongoing wars & disagreements should cease.
- Children and people are not taught: How to behave, what is right and wrong, what to believe, what is expected of them, how to conduct themselves, the importance of manners, history and forgiveness.
Whilst my credentials say I am Christian, I do not see myself as much of a religious person. I do, however, believe that the way I conduct myself is due to a basis on religion.

QFT, I was brought up without any religion, and I've ended up just fine. I would like to think that my behaviour, the way I respect other people and my morals in general are of a high standard.RDMC wrote:

Same, I've never taken anything going with religion and I still know what is right and what is wrong.KILLSWITCH wrote:

Religion does not teach you the above. Morality teaches you the above, and morality is not based upon religion, religion is based upon morality (aparrently). Therefore without religion we would still have that base of morality.
