I only like the custom fan... The VF1000 is really good from what I've seen on reviews.
The 1GB memory is quite nonsense though, you might get a slight fps increase in higher AA/Higher Resolutions but I've yet to see a game that uses 512MB + of gfx memory (No Crysis doesn't). The 256-bit memory interface is just the issue on the 8800GT.. You can have an 8800GT with 1GB memory, 256-bit and an 8800GTX with 768MB memory (which is less) but with 384 bit. The latter one will still perform better.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

The reason I loved the GT was because it was single slot design. Uhh, they had to ruin it!

Single slot = Loud and hot

I mean, who uses so many cards that you can't give one slot to the cooler?

You seriously have six PCI/PCIe cards in those?!

Some areas are dominated with dual PCIE x1 which I don't use, so the slots are useless.

I'd not put an 8800GT in a HTPC anyway

I sort of use it as my main system as well. My 'main system' is a work in progress at the minute.

Same thoughts I had.  Too much memory and a limiting bus, although the cooler is pretty sweet.

The price is probably going to be closer to $400. At that, you're much better off getting a G92 GTS. As for temps, I'm at %50 fan, 46 idle 66 load (crysis high). Can't even hear the fan. Plus, who needs 1GB? I don't play games at 10000x10000.

Well, then you shouldn't mind the two-slot design, covering those slots...?

They can't.

PCI-e x1     -  Unused
PCI-e x16   -  X1900XT Dual Slot Cooler
PCI            -  Unable to use this due to dual slot cooler
