Price. But no, film is nice. There is a skill with it that you don't need with digital.Hurricane2k9 wrote:
Film will always have that certain something to it that digital can never truly capture.

Using film builds a lot of discipline, your friend who can "point and shoot B+W without even trying" might have put a bit of time into it.Uzique wrote:
i was surprised at how cheap it is, too. actually more cost effective than the new-fangled DSLR's if you save photography for genuine occasions and only take a photo of things really worth capturing. obviously you lose the convenience and ease of the DSLR but, yeah, film seems to create something much more personal and... uh... 'bespoke'? plus it's ultra cool and hip and trendy and vintage
I like B+W, not just for the hipster profile

I used to develop my own film prints. My family owned a print shop with a light room. It was tedious, especially if you wanted to edit in post.
Chris Marquardt is a photog who has gone back to film .. for the most part.

Nice one, mine was just a 30 second exposure that I had set up for the wife to take, but she decided to watch the display instead.Kmar wrote:

Thank you. One thing I find with fireworks is that it's always interesting capturing the audience (context).

3"2 .. key is getting them when they are focused on something and not moving. The boy is my nephew. The girl is my niece.Jenspm wrote:
What kind of shutter speed is that, Kmar? The people don't look too blurry (esp. your kids)

Nice composition Kmar. Including people in fireworks shots does not seem like an easy feat

Flickr desaturated it and no amount of saturation in PS brings it to normal levels... Argh. Especially the greens in the explosions

So smooth. Very little noise for a gradient night shot like that ^. Excellent shot.
Including kids in a night shot is especially hard.. lol

I wish I had seen this technique before.
(not mine)
Although I was dealt a relatively crappy location last night. I should have went to Channelside in downtown Tampa.
