Not saying it's a waste of time, it's hugely expensive and costs a lot of money for appeal proceedings.

Guys on death row are given automatic appeals, whether or not they want them.

Time out of Judges and defense attorneys and prosecutors lives...dude, that is what they do for a living.  Who's to say hearing appeal #12923423 is any more of a waste of time than hearing patent troll case #1249023?  It's a bit of a subjective argument, no?
I was just explaining how the cost is calculated. Most death row appeals are a pure waste of time though. It's boring in jail, spending time in a courtroom is a change of pace.

I don't deny their right to an appeal at all. If they're innocent and gain their freedom it's a good thing.

I just think the whole 'life in prison' is more humane thing is stupid. Dead is dead whether it happens to be today or fifty years from now. Living without freedom isn't living life as a human. Without hope or the ability to dream or control your own destiny you're no different from a cow raised for slaughter.
"Ah, you miserable creatures! You who think that you are so great! You who judge humanity to be so small! You who wish to reform everything! Why don't you reform yourselves? That task would be sufficient enough."

Manson called off the wedding. He discovered that the woman who wanted to marry him planned on putting his body on display as a tourist attraction to make money for herself. I'm not kidding

The CIA tortured terror suspects in its programme of "enhanced interrogation", the agency's former executive director, Buzzy Krongard, has admitted to the BBC's Panorama programme.

The agency's position has always been that the "enhanced interrogation" techniques it used under George W Bush, did not amount to torture, because they were legally approved by the White House at the time.

The CIA took its interrogation techniques from the United States military programme known as SERE - Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape - which teaches soldiers how to resist torture techniques used in the conflicts in Vietnam, Korea and Nazi Germany.

Malcolm Nance, former military instructor for the SERE programme, recreated the techniques the CIA adopted, for the BBC.

"These close confinement boxes were used by the SS," Nance explained. "They would stuff these British and American agents into them and drive them mad."
The methods were lifted straight from the SS torture manual - top work chaps.
