Dues Ex: The Conspiracy = came out on PC first. About 2000. Invisible War fails, stay away from it.

Has nothing on the original.

Eeeh. MUDs. Only one worth even going close to is Achaea. They have whole governments and shit. When MMORPGs can do a full government for various cities that can and do declare full scale wars... Well, then I'll pay a subscription fee.

unnamed, you are the winnar at PC gaming as far as veriaty and such goes. Outlaws = AWESOME. But old school.

Savage is good if you can find a decent server to hang around on. Savage 2 is out.

Quake's source code is floating about online as freeware.

There's a mud called Shattered Kingdoms that is way more fun than Achaea, from what I'm told and from my brief experience, more fun than WoW or EQ2, and free. It has an immensely-detailed world and plot-oriented PVP, once you get bored with PVM. If you can find someone to buddy up with who doesn't mind actually reading, it can be pretty great.

And oldschool = awesome. In all my collection, most of the PC games I've dubbed awesome come from circa <2000, and I haven't even listed all of them. Outlaws takes the cake as the best PC western in existence. Sorry, Call of Juarez.

Savage is dead fun. Just download that SFE mod, and it represents the widest playerbase still present in the community. Updated graphics and so on. And 80 players > BF2's 64.

I forgot to tag some freeware where there undoubtedly is.

Outlaws was the third fps I beat. I've always wanted another good Western FPS since then and haven't found one yet that matched it. Even though it's very much what Ty calls a "90's game" with it's boss fights and such it still wins.

Homeworld > Homeworld 2. Though both are great. A very different kind of 'rts'. Need more like them.
