Atheist is not even close enough for me. I consider myself an apostate. I've rejected my former religion, and I also criticize it if I feel like bashing on it. I have turned down many baptism, funerals and weddings because of that, simply because I will not go inside the house of lies again (13 years and couting without going there). I vomit on the bible for fun
People like you give atheists the bad name they currently hold. Don't like religion? Fine. Don't impose yourself on other people by bashing religion because then you're just as bad as the institutions you're criticizing. Do you have any idea how much of an asshole it would make you look like if you refused to attend a funeral of a close friend/family member just because you don't like the words the preacher said? I mean no hostility, but an attitude like that is what makes people think atheists are stupid and immoral.

In response to the OP, I was born, baptized, and confirmed Catholic against my will, but am now a happy atheist. Contrary to popular belief, I don't go out on Saturdays to stand on a soapbox on a street corner to proclaim the evils of religion. Religion is a personal matter and unless somebody else brings up the topic, I keep my views to myself.
