Simple really, i'll be getting in the region of £250 (maybe slightly more) with which to upgrade my computer.

Now i want something that can play games like COD4 with nice graphics, at a good FPS, and, is also pretty future proof.

Current stats:

2.8ghz Pentium D 820 (SmithField)
1024 mb DDR2  ram
Nvidia 7300SE/7200GS (512mb)
Philips DVD8801
Cuba MS-7301 M'Board
250w (max) PSU
So, you have around [b]£250 to play with, try and include vat+shipping in this[b/], and i'll update the OP if i get any more money to play with.

Cheers in advance,
                            Jamie

I know its cheap ram, but a gig for £20 isnt bad, try and find out what speed your ram runs at 667MHz 800MHz or ?
Then buy another gig of that speed ram accordingly.

No way. His CPU is nearly acceptable. The graphics card is the main priority.

edit: /me hits self for not reading properly, realises it is more than CPU. I still think that the graphics card needs upgrading for CoD4

I'd go for that bundle though, but only if there's enough money left after buying it for a decent gfx... But there isn't

Remembering that OCUK is rarely the cheapest for anything and that you can sell your gig of RAM to get a few quid back.

Yeah get an 8800GT and an extra gig of RAM and you'll be good to go. Just make sure your power supply can handle it.

I need a new mobo too.

My ram is in 512 sticks, and the mobo only has 2 ram slots.

And i'm not sure, but i may need a new PSU

Guys why use overclockers when www.scan.co.uk , www.aria.co.uk , www.microdirect.co.uk , www.novatech.co.uk are so much cheaper. Check there deals sections see whats about, overclockers are shall we say on the pricey side even www.ebuyer.com & www.dabs.com are cheaper.

aria are doing ram @ under £15 http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Oth … ctId=27262
even a xfx8800gt Alpha dog for under £200 http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Componen … ctId=29566

Scan have some superb offers on there this week only section as well & i know people use overclockers as an example i am just offering a more a varied selection of websites to search, bookmark them guys they offer superb value.

Try looking here @ the bundles http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/bundles.html

I aggree with the ram, but if your going to get a graphics card, i'd get a more up to date one, only because they do become out of date very quickly, but you'd have to go out of your budget...

Ram - <$100
GFX - 100-500 (According to the date of release, how many MB it is, etc.)
everything i write is a ramble and should not be taken seriously.... seriously.

Graphics:    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … ubcat=1008       £187.99 inc VAT

RAM:  http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … =MY-058-GL        (£41.11 inc vat at 17.5%)

If your mobo supports PCI-E and it can handle the RAM that is the best upgrade you could do for uder 250.

What power supply do you have ?

good luck - claor

For the X1950PRO they recommend a 400W PSU. What do you have ?

if a 8800 is to much, then a 8600 is good.  2gb of ram with a 8600 w/ 512 mb will last.

As has been said before what PSU do you have (look at the sticker on the it and post the numbers). It looks like you could get away with a new graphics card and 2Gb ram to replace your existing RAM. But this depends on you PSU being powerful enough to run a X1950Pro/7900GT(O)X/8800GT

Get an 8800 GT, and Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 RAM.

Problem solved.

The bundle package is your best bet.  I have a very similar set up with a crap 6600 geforce 512mb card that can play COD4 (demo that was) with nice graphics.

10 marks for reading the thread.

Anyway.. £250 isn't that much. I'd wait until after Christmas with the 'January sales'. Not only will you get stuff for cheaper, but new hardware will probably be released...making the current hardware (E6300s etc) a lot cheaper than they are already!
