Mono? Stereo? 2.1? 5.1? What kind of audio system have you got hooked up at our place?

I've got one 5.1 system based on the JVCTH-A5R amplifier. Mostly only use 2.1 with the computer. Wonderful sound wih my 12" Pioneer woofer.

I've also got a Pioneer SA-330 4x100w amplifier with three 8" subs (Two in boxes with tweeters, one just woofer)

https://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/Freezer7Pro/IMG_0102.jpg

And, finally, a 4x40w car stereo at my drawing desk. Mostly use it for the clock

https://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb8/Freezer7Pro/IMG_0101.jpg

Note the heatsink I glued to the stereo. It got rather hot without the moving air in a car. I measured it to over 80 deg Celsius after playing a 30Hz wave for 5 minutes

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I seem to have a fetish for audio   I spend most of my budget on home cinema gear on audio (although not this time) and quite a bit on PC.

For my theatre setup I have it hooked up to a Yamaha RX-V3800 amplifer with some Jamo speakers in a 7.1 configuration although the sub somewhat let's it down (a denon from an all in one dvd/amplifer, but still soldiers on), the quality is ''fan-fucking-tastic''.

Fact this reminds me I should probably ask here, the amp absolutley REFUSES to go into ''Dolby Digital Plus'' mode.  As far as I am aware, plus is just a tweaked Dolby Digital, so I assumed u could simply switch it to Plus for some added oomph, even if it is just a gimic.  But apparantly not, it will only let me play normal Digital, or DTS if the movie supports it

On my PC, although on this machine here I have no sound card as yet, I do have Logitech Z-2300 THX which certainly sound and look the buissiness.

Some Aiwa speakers from my old stereo hooked up to a Cambridge Soundworks sub.

Cost me about £30 total and shits on normal PC speakers from a great height, deeper bass, more clarity just all round better in every way and cheaper, can't work out why people go to companies like Logitech who make mice and keyboards for their speakers, at least Creative make audio mainly, not the best but better than most other PC targeted companies.

I'm in the process of gutting the area under my TV in the Entertainment center. I am building my own cooling and integrating a media PC.
My laptop actually has an HDMI out port, so I'm thinking about using that until I finish building the other. I just need to get an external drive suitable for dvr playback. Such as this : My DVR Expander
https://i6.tinypic.com/6lxc6ti.jpg

Last night I tested playing Blue ray format from my laptop out to my Sony in my room. I have a fios connection of 20 down so it takes me just a little over an hour to get a Blu ray sized movie. Last night it was Pirates of the Carribean III At Worlds End. https://i15.tinypic.com/82bfzt5.gif

I use CyberLink PowerDVD Ultra to play both my Blu-ray and HD DVDs. (From my PC to my TV that is)

Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 30 Watts 2.0 Speaker system for my computer, which sits on a desk made of plywood and cardboard legs.

Nothing but TV speakers on my massive, slightely discolored tube Television.  The most haggard home made stereo in my car that doesn't run.

I'm fucking poor. What can I say.

Im gonna keep Kmarion's pictures to pretend its my system.

With the loss of my beloved sub amplifier, I have now modded an aging AKAI stereo amp with a more powerful power source and some new stuff to use it with my 12". Works flawlessly, it's got more than enough power to power the sub now. WIch, by the way, is mounted magnet facing out, in a badass way. When I max out, I can hear the bass from two apartments away

Looks are cool but they have a grill over them anyways . The sound is awesome though. They are directional and you can calibrate them for accuracy by setting the switches on them to correspond to the distance to walls..etc.

Rule number one when cutting holes in your ceiling.. make sure you clear the insulation above it first ..lol. (I didn't)
