I know hip hop. Real hip hop and classic hip hop. I used to rock that west coast shit in my younger days, just to represent since I was far away from home. I used to bump Black Market non stop. I still appreciate a good sound. But 99% of the shit that comes out now, I wouldnt consider hip hop. More like pop music.
Rich Boy is garbage.

Lil Wayne's leather is so soft. He's stuntin' like his daddy.
50 Cent makes money (not like Too Short though - he makes his money and makes it fast). He'll take you to the Candy Shop! What a nice date!
Fat Joe leans back (probably 'cause he's too fat to dance), and makes it rain (with Lil Wayne) on 'dem hoes.
Mims can (and will) show you why he's hot. And tell you just how he likes it (like that).
T-Pain will buy you a drank. Perhaps from the bartender.
I call this shit rap. Not hip-hop. Most of those ^^^ songs I could write while taking a shit.
When labels parade out shit like that, its kind of hard to justify liking hip-hop. It's all about the independent scene in hip-hop - what 10 years ago was called "underground" hip-hop.
hell yeah. Ive always loved rap music and hip hop. I know more about it than the average cat. Nowadays, all you need is a hook and halfway decent production and you get millions sold, whether or not its worth listening too. Not too many cats out there are worth the money they make. At least mainstream. Mos Def comes to the top of my head thats pretty tight. The Roots. Talib. Kanye West (Mr. West now?) but even he is getting on my nerves a little. a primadonna.
People I cant stand right now are 50 cent, the game, fat joe......too many to fucking name. Hip Hop died in the mid 90's. Although I do got a flavor for some of the shit coming from texas, simply for nostalgic reasons. Paul Wall is pretty decent I think, maybe Slim Thug. I used to hate screwed and chopped until I came home and realized how lame the choices of music were over here. Outkast is always tight, real talent.
you heard of Brother Ali?

Albino rapper Brother Ali. He'll be at Rock the Bells. He's got a really good producer (Ant).
Mos Def is one of those guys on a major record label but still able to put out quality music without fear of becoming commercialized (talking about bitches, money, cars, bling, etc). I think it is because he paid his dues in the underground scene for so long even mainstream types respect his ability.
