Offerings from software companies and producers are often unappealing or quite simply, lame. FPS games and RTS games among others, in the end just merge into each other, the same concepts with different graphics or models. Every so often a game breaks the mold and becomes truly awesome mostly because of a mixture of scenario and storyline. Halo is an example, as is Half-Life.
My question is this: If you could come up with any concept for a game and have it work to be an awesome and memorable experience, what would you make? Don't worry too much about the technicalities like "I'm not sure how the player could do that", if you have a solution great but just think of an idea, a concept or even a storyline to make an awesome game of whatever genre or type you desire. I'm sure we could come up with a lot better ideas than the repeditive schite that is out and about.

Think of several main issues including character(s), genre, scenario, storyline, activities, challenges etc. or just come up with a basic idea that could possibly work to be awesome.
----------
If you'd like to come up with a sequel with new features for an existing game that's cool too.

I'll create a basic idea, cos i've just woke up, and i need a cig.

Basically, a re-hash of something else, a new Mechwarrior game, but a hell of a lot deeper than MW4, with amazing graphics, and support for 64 players. Also with a little tool that lets you create a totally new paint scheme for your mech, and in-game weapon customization, So you don't end up stuck with the wrong loadout. Imaginative huh?

I'd make a casino with blackjack and hookers.
In fact, forget the casino.
And the blackjack....

No, seriously, i'd make a FPS that was simple, balanced and real fun with good graphics and weapons etc

Like BF2 only without all the problems that come with it. It would have real life places and scale maps. You could have all the branches of the army(Officers, Tank Commanders, Logistics, etc). Officers could build stuff like on Command and conquer and then soldiers could fight from the places. It would be full scale battles with 300 v 300. You could get a shovel and dig yourself a hole to fire from as a soldier. Or draw a plan up as a General. Maybe upgrade a Tank targeting system as a Technician.

Yeah.

A realistic single player war game. You go through rigorous training (physical and shooting etc), and you then are in the heart of war. Consider yourself a troop of Black Hawk Down.

Has it been done with cool graphics? (not Ghost Recon crap)

I'd like a futuristic RPG/FPS, where you have a spaceship that you build up and fly (kind of like Elite/Privateer). Very action oriented, but very open end non-linear story.

OR. A game like GTA but there's a full series for every place in Europe and the Us. Like you can walk around a real place like your home town. And you can go indoors. And you can go indoors and place on the PC like you're really doing it!

I'll throw my hat in and see what you reckon. This is long as it requires quite a bit of explanation.
My idea for a game would be in the horror/action genre, and since there is as of yet no really definitive serious Zombie game I would want to make it about that. I know "Left 4 Dead" is in the works to come out later this year, but I feel it's lacking. From what I can tell all you do is run around with four people and get from here to there. The setting is at night time, it is dilapidated neighborhoods, the same old style from things like Counter-Strike and Half-Life, (although in saying this L4D looks awesome and I'll be getting it as soon as it comes out.) The Zombies in my game will be the fast kind instead of the slow lumbering zombies like the ones in "Dead Rising". Headshots won't be the only way to take them out, but it'll be clear that Zombies can take a shit-load of damage unless they are hit in the head.

MY Zombie game will not always be at night in dilapidated graffitied neighborhoods, warehouse districts or docks like L4D is. It will be a full scale world-wide disaster, (think Dawn of the Dead,) and it will be not just at night but with a day/night cycle, like S.T.A.L.K.E.R but more realistic, (S.T.A.L.K.E.R's days were long and it's nights were short and not very dark.) Also I'd implement a weather system, again like S.T.A.L.K.E.R but more realistic as S.T.A.L.K.E.R which has a range only of overcast to raining to stormy and the transitions were fairly random and quick. The setting would be a large city complete with suburbs, central business districts, (offices etc.) things like malls, shops etc. and yes, even the warehouse districts and docks.

The player's character would be Joe Anybody, (not sure of a name but that's what the character is.) He/She'd be fully customisable, from a big burly tough guy to a skinny wimp or a fat-arse, whatever. Character customisation of course is not essential because as this would be an FPS-type game and you wouldn't see yourself, but character customisation is always cool, (plus you could see yourself in reflections in-game.) Anyway this Joe Anybody bloke/bloke-ess would basically wake up in a shit-storm, people are panicking, houses are on fire, helicopters are circling, and of course, Zombies are attacking. Joe will be unarmed, he'll have to find something to defend himself with, and unlike that game Dead Rising which was fairly ridiculous with everything being a weapon including things like lightsabers, absolutely everything won't be a weapon, it has to be practical. There will be no lightsabers or or some of the other randomness that was in Dead Rising, he may find some tools in some house that he can use to wallop any Zombie he might come across for now. He can drive most cars or trucks to get around, (but there will be few as most people have fled or crashed while fleeing.) Vehicles will take damage from hitting Zombies or obstacles, plus if Joe tried to ram a zombie while he's going too slow the zombie can latch on and do some damage unless Joe gets it off somehow. It will mean Joe has to be careful, if his ride gets too damaged it will be a liability, you don't want a car to conk out on you if your in the middle of a mass of Zombies. Joe could move by foot of course, either because he's forced to, (no usable car,) or because it's a more subtle approach.

There will be other survivors too, they may be armed better or worse than you, be hysterical or in control of themselves, you can join up with groups or have people group up with you. The basic idea of the first couple of days or whatever is to survive and make sure you can defend yourself. Guns will be in short supply, so trying to find a place where you could get one is a good idea. The basic concept with weapons is that you get one primary and one secondary, fairly normal stuff. The weapons would not be hard-core military style unless one is very lucky to find one with enough ammo to satisfy, (there may be the possibility of raiding an army outpost or something.) To get weapons you can try and find a gun shop, (which will be rare,) or find a weapon in a house, or that someone has tried and failed to defend themselves with. Things like Police Cars will be good places to look for weaponry and ammunition, (which will also be in fairly short supply to keep with the Zombie genre.) Don't waste your shots and try to hit 'em in the head!
The basic idea at this stage being survival, one man with a slim selection of weaponry isn't going to do too much damage should he get in the shit. Eventually creating or hooking up with a group is going to be essential as will finding a safe haven to barricade.

Groups will eventually find a place to stay, Zombie activity can get pretty hectic when out in the open so a shop or house or mall or office complex or warehouse can be barricaded by various means to keep you safe. Of course some places are better than others, you may find you're in a bad place, or that Zombie action has damaged your defences and you'll have to move out to find a new place. Again, motorised transport is a possibility, use what you can find.
Yours is not the only group alive though. You may encounter a place already barricaded by another group. This group could be overly protective and refuse to let you in, they may be openly hostile and you may have to retreat or fight them off or they may want to help you and have the two groups join. Likewise you may find yourself in situations where groups want in on your place of residence and you'll have to decide what to do. There are risks, there could be infected people in the group, the group may have ideas of destroying your group for what resources you have or they could be a healthy addition of manpower to your group. How the interaction will work I have no idea, but it's unimportant at this stage anyway. Generally groups will help one another so encountering a hostile group will be rare.

There will have to be some objective of the game, most likely reaching a survivor rally point or getting rescued or simply surviving long enough for humanity to get it's shit together. I'm not sure what exactly it could be though, the game will be fairly sandbox style, it most definitely won't be linear, there will be different ways to solve challenges or achieve goals. I'd like to add a way people can use ingenuity to combine or create things to ensure their survival or the survival of others. A strong group with lots of weaponry and resources will do well so you can conduct raids to stockpile materials and weapons or to help struggling survivors, judge whether the risk outweighs the benefit and strategies with the rest of your group to determine who does what.

Zombies can attack however you find them. If you find one or two dotted around they'll all run for you, you may encounter a huge group, they may surround your base of operations and you may need to find a way to break through them if the need arises. Their attack will generally be biting and scratching. With the whole infected thing I think it's unfair if one itty-little bite meant that you slowly die and turn into a Zombie, but if you get bitten enough without getting medical attention that's what will happen. Stay alert for members of your group who may be infected and decide whether to shoot them then and there or mark them carefully until they drift off, (and the come back,) and then blow their brain out.
Survive, find safe haven, create or join groups of survivors and help each other, amount resources, weaponry, ammunition and other survivors to help you, protect yourself and your group, find a way to be rescued or create your own way out. That'll be the basic idea.
------------------
I know there are a lot of holes, I just kept on writing, (I can't sleep,) so there are some things that wouldn't quite work, and some things I neglected to mention or whatever. It would most definitely be a challenge for any developer to create. Still, if any game was made like that I'd lock myself in a room and immerse myself in Zombified awesomeness.

Well, I love space shooters and there are a definite lack of them in the market.

Story: Based around an odd backstabbing scenario...

- It is the 22nd century and mankind has finally taken to the stars in large enough numbers to create colonies and travel to distant star systems. Eventually humankind makes first contact with another intelligent being and a mutual friendship/alliance is forged. The two allies, now living in harmony in each other's societies have formed a lasting bond. Our allies our amazed by our past obsession with self destruction and marvel at our capacity to kill our own kind because of having different "ideals." Humanity becomes the supplier of soldiers, pilots and general military staff for the new alliance while the allies supply technology. Contact is made with yet another intelligent species a mere 50 years after our first introduction to an alien species. This race possesses the same "skill" for self destruction as humanity. The military becomes mixed with the two species who form a marvelous meld of skill and power. This military might would soon be tested though, as a war unlike anything either race has fought was about to unfold. It happened in a flash, literally, a massive tear in space opened, millions of starships poured out and flooded the SOL star system.  Their intention was unknown as Earth's naval forces sent scouts and envoys to discover their agenda. No warning was given, no prisoners were taken, in a flash of light Earth was blasted by billions of cannons from the massive and unknown naval force. Under the constant barrage the planet...our planet shattered. With the bulk of humanity destroyed in a matter of hours as other colonies fell in a similar fashion, our allies began to mobilize. Our military allies were suspicious as to how we were so utterly devastated in a matter of hours soon found the answer. The Phoriupts,  our first alien contact was in league with the attackers. The technology, plans and military, all Phoriutian creations. Our, peaceful allay that was amazed with our own self-destructive capabilities would use their knowledge to wipe out nearly all of humanity in a single swift strike.

Gameplay: Arcade based but with location specific damage to ships as well as visual cues to highly damaged areas. Soft ammo (lasers) is unlimited but requires massive energy capacitors, Hot ammo (plasma) is limited but melts away shielding very well and also slowly melts threw armor while hard ammo (bullets, cannons and missiles/rockets)  are limited and do little damage to shielding but shatter armor in seconds. Based around the fact that the majority of the military is now Saith controlled most human fighters are mercenary units. As a mercenary pilot you an acquire offer 50 star fighters and 25 heavy star cruisers (frigates, gunships, carriers and battle cruisers) as well as call in heavy backup and bombardment from allies.

or I could just go play Freelancer...which also sounds good

Here's some ideas I came up with a while ago for the next BF2 game, involves ME combat, Arctic combat against the Russians, fighting militias in Asian Jungles and guerrilas in Africa and South America.

I would like to see a remake of the current BF2 in a few years, with graphics comaprable to say Crysis or other high end game, fully destuctible environments, some gore say if hit by a rocket you would actually explode.

Large caliber weapons can pass through several people. All buildings fully enterable (is this a word? probably not) special actions used to kick open doors and whatnot, craters occur in the ground, trees destroyable in large woodland firefights can work for you and against you (falling on enemies).

Kit customisation like 2142, the rank you are appears on your characters uniform, your character can be customised at the main menu so everyone looks different, I'm talking about what your clothing looks like and what packs you carry, changeable and set for each role.

Melee attacks with weapons, use of fists for fun factor like Timesplitters.

Possible singleplayer storyline, like whats planned for Bad Company.

Vehicle take progressive damage e.g. tires shot out windshields shattered and blown in, hoods fly off the reveal engines, fuel tanks can explode if hit correctly.

Destroyed vehicle husks do not disappear so the battlefield will become progressively more cluttered with wreckage as the game advances.

Small addition, but your character reloads your weapon differently when in different stances for realism and something different.

Abilty to side roll out of danger alongside the usual side shuffle along the ground.

Large maps capable of supporting large numbers of people.

In urban and city maps, abandoned civilian vehicles can be used, any vehicles on the maps not destroyed can still be used by the player.

Levels of damage done to a building can affect its stability, say if the ground floor supports are heavily damaged or knocked out, the first floor and all floors above collapse. Gas lines in houses can explode, water mains and hydrants can be burst and flood below ground areas that could be used to an advantage by the player such as sewer systems.

Weather changes throughout the battle, so it may rain or snow depending on the location of the map, thunderstorms can occur, lightning can strike trees and cause fires which are hazardous to infantry and lightning can also strike the highest positions, being dangerous to those in that position at the time. Heavy rain can fill up craters and make them unusable as cover, sewer systems can be overwhelmed and will block off certain routes.

Different ways to destroy a tank or armored vehicle, if a soldier can get on top of the vehicle, you can use an action to pull open the hatch and throw a grenade inside, killing the gunner and commander and damaging the tank, but not destroying it. When infantry exit vehicles, doors open to allow them to escape.

During rainstorms, muddy areas can become difficult to traverse with wheeled vehicles and on foot, making them easier targets.

A modern war MMOFPS (Which is what I thought BF2 would be like when I first got it).

You pick your army, your kit etc. then get stationed at a camp or something, do missions with other players, fighting for other camps, and then like once in a month, have a full scale war.

WOW THAT WOULD OWN!

BF2-EA+Gears of War+Oblivion+STALKER*Planetside

Formula for the best game ever.

So basically, I would have a real world global scale battle with rankings, squads, armies, battalions ect, realistic graphics that would absolutely RAPE an option to have either Gears of War camera or FPS, Character cusomisation like planetside, so you choose what you are proficient in but are able to change with a touch of Oblivion, which would be leveling up your attributes. On top of this you would also have a Planetside/Oblivion/STALKER style inventory system, being able to choose your weapons at bases, finding them or picking them up off bodies. As a character, you would have customisation similar to oblivion (Choosing face, body, race ect.) and also Halo 2/3 style armor customisation. Combat would be slightly slower than BF2 not rewarding people ramboing but not allowing players to airtight a base completely with a handful of guys. Like in Planetside, battles would be happening all over the global map with tons of key areas and bases to take over, and it wouldn't be wimpy BF2 style capping, more like objective based capturing like QW:ET.

Zomg. I would definitally DEVOTE my life to such a game. Thats in a nutshell too, Ill go into details later if Im bored.

The MMOFPS market has untapped potential. I think the entire BF2s community needs to shift to Huxley when it comes out.

I'd make an FPS/RPG. It's the one thing your rarely or never see. What I mean is like Oblivion with a gun xD
Basically, make your character fully customizable, get tons of upgrades, and perhaps make it compatible with multiplayer.
You would start with nothing and work your way up, choosing to do Assassin's contracts, Bodyguard jobs or other such things. You can work your way up the police and the mafia, and become boss of both. This is true with any other groups present in the game.

Oh, and I'd want it to have a plot twist -> at the end of the game (the very very end, 100% complete) you die. And you go to the world of the dead, which could be an expansion.

Throw guild wars style multiplayer in there and I think thats pretty good.

I'd love to see a handheld laser targeting system in a new game like that. Lighting up targets for easy hits by jets - a lot like in Transformers. Maybe as a bit of kit for spec ops.

Wow. Just wow.
send this idea to a game developer dude. not EA.
I think this is an amazing idea.
