Nero lost my music!!

I installed Nero media player, cos it had the software on it to support DvD playback.

I thought I choose to not have it as my default media player, but it decided to be it anyway.

Now all my music folders in the main folder (My Music) are gone. All I have now are individual files; which were directly under 'My Music'.

I have now put WMP back as my default media player but my tunes are still missing.

Anyone know where they might be?

I have music in this folder
C:\Documents and Settings\Jimbob\My Documents\My Music

But music within a folder in 'My Music'....
e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\Jimbob\My Documents\My Music\Linkin Park

....is missing?

(BTW my name is not Jimbob)

Start > Acsessories > System Tools > System Restore.

retore to when you installed Nero.

that doesnt solve your problem, but it gets your music back.

I've never done a system restore is it guaranteed to work?

maybe it just moved the music somewhere else? Do a search for a track that was there

yes thats the point of it lol.

it restores you system to EXACTLY how it was before you installed nero

Done a system restore, and they are gone Its also my videos as well.

I will try another, restore even earlier, but I'm doubtful.

Kinda. Sorta. Not quite.

Its NOT a backup of your computer or documents if thats what you're getting at. It only backups certains .dll, .exe, registry etc. files that are critical to the system functioning.

You would know if it deleted your files becuase you must have noticed a large performance lag while they would have been being deleted.

It seems very unlikely that they were deleted - maybe moved.

Search for *.mp3, *.wav, or a track name.

I searched just mp3 without anything in the name search and only got a few in the main 'my music' file and some from applications.

I have em backed up on my old computer, its just a lot of hassle to get them onto this computer.

...but it doesn't give me my music back.

I'm not 100% sure it was Nero media player that messed it up, but I havn't done any other major things today apart from installing that.

Looks like a long boring time transferring em over my network. Unless anyone wants to give me a crossover cable
