How can this:

https://z.about.com/d/architecture/1/7/N/i/Christ_the_Redeemer-lge2.jpg

have made it into the 'New 7 World Wonders' over this:

https://www.presscluboftibet.org/UserFiles/potala_palace.jpg

the Potala Palace, Tibet, which didn't even make the fucking shortlist!!!!?

Christ Redeemer is hardly a feat of engineering. Post details of which 'Wonders' you think should have made it into the top 7 or even the shortlist, perhaps something from your own country?

personaly i think that a thing like a statue should be a wonder, not like a whole city, that is like 1000wonders.

The statue is certainly impressive, however imagine the uproar in Christian (and other) religions if it hadnt of become a Wonder of the World...

True......it even beat out Angkor Wat, I was shocked that this statue made it over so many other true wonders....that was a joke...

I have to agree. Even as a Christian, I have to say there are so many other awe-inspiring things on earth that should have made the list over that. I mean...come on! It's just a bigger-than-average statue.

Indeed. In that reckoning the Statue of Liberty should have made the list too, and that would just seem odd.
Sydney Opera house wouldn't make the list by a LONG shot. It's only about 40 years old. It's an architectual curiosity and a symbol but not a wonder, at least not yet. It was one of the finalists though, so you never know. I think most of the finalists were hardly 'wonders'.
The Potala Palace definatly deserves a spot on the list, at least over the Redeemer.

My opinions... well I think the Acropolis deserves a mention, from what I read the Easter Island Moais came pretty close to getting in the final list. What's more of a wonder with Rapa Nui itself is because it is almost completely stripped of trees and wildlife. It is a testiment to what man can achieve if he doesn't consider the environment he lives in. The man who cut down the last tree on Rapa Nui could see that it was the last tree.

Hmm... I've been to Angkor Wat. That's place is so 'touristy'. There's like 10-15 5 star hotels in the (very) close city of Siem Reap that cater for the japanese 'weekend holiday'. They fly down on the friday night, see the place on saturday and fly back on Sunday. My experience of that place may be further tainted by the fact our guide was sleazy, somewhat chauvinistic and only interested in getting a tip (which he didn't get!).

Agreed, the key-word people are missing is "Wonder", what exactly to people wonder about when they see a big statue of Jesus? "I wonder if God put that statue there?"?

Also got to love how the Great Pyramid of Giza was a finalist, despite the fact that it's already one of the 7 ancient wonders! How can it be new and ancient?

http://www.new7wonders.com/index.php?id=633

EDIT: And how is Stonehenge NEW? I'd like to meet the guy who thinks that's new, and sell him a new car!

Religous retards with no sense of architectural brilliance voted for the Christ statue. It's so insignificant and there are like 100 000 000 statues of him all over. This one is only better cause it's on top of a mountain.
