Ah thats right, the United States of America has never had any weapon misfire, jam, or stop working correctly in the history of its existence. Right? Not like the Vietnam era M16 had any problems... right? Am I correct here? Hmm?

Ya got me there. Tis true tis true. The first M16 A1 Service Rifle did have it's troubles,
but we worked around that and the M16A2 Service Rifle has been pretty succesful to the
point that we're still using it up to this day.  But this is a time of change for our militarys,
many new and kick-ass weapons systems are being deployed as we speak.

It's kinda scary to think but such is life. Technology must advance.

M16A2 works reasonably, but it isn't exactly as "low maintenance" as originally claimed (and that even was the AR15/M16 before even the A1 was introduced). The reason why you still use an AR15 type weapon is because the OICW project has been indefinitely suspended due to funding and the XM8 was considered to be to small an improvement (read: it remained to expensive to rearm). Because of the fine AR15 the entire Western world accepted the new underpowered .22 caliber NATO round. True, you can carry more ammo, but you have to because you need more hits to kill a target. Before that, the US propagated the overpowered .308 Winchester which was basically a shortened 30-06. If it were for the Brittish, we would have all fired .280 Brittish intermediate with an accurate, reliable, low-maintenance, select-fire weapon (what later would be the FAL in .308), that could have remained in service untill today and still meet expectations.

Canadians (and the Dutch and the Danish as well) use a Diemaco C7, which is far from being the worlds finest, but still a juiced up M16A2. It's Canadian build, has a simpler assembly for the M203, came with standard opticals sights when the US still mainly used iron sights, has standard polymer mags (while it can still accept M16 style metal mags), and it has a full auto mode instead of the cheap ammo-saving burst mode of the A2.

It's really a sad state of affairs when the Canadians prove themselves to be bigger nationalistic jackasses than the Americans.

Firstly, this idea of 'our army could kick your army's ass' is incredibly childish and stupid. Please desist.

Secondly, Canadians have the worst historical sense of the War of 1812. While Canadians were forming the militias that initially defended Canada, the majority of the war was fought by the British soldiers who were arriving, because they were far more professional and well equipped. They were the ones who burned down Washington. They were the ones fighting the Americans mostly. But also, the Americans burned down the Parliament Buildings. I have yet to hear a Canadian speak of this, mostly because they are too busy taunting the Americans about the White House. This wasn't a Canadian versus American war- It's implications were across the Atlantic, too. Additionally, the British naval blockade was devastating, and far more effective than any effort put forth by any Canadian unit. And, to speak of a different war, the Great War, please end these foolish claims that Canadians were vital to the war.

Thirdly, I must strike down this nationalist fervor, especially considering the identification of those who were soldiers in the War of 1812. Remember, most settlers in Canada were born in the United Kingdom, and that Canada was not even a country. It is difficult to find a sense of Canada at that time. Also, Canadians should remember that these are men who existed far before us. Most likely, you have no relation to them other than that they lived in the same area that was claimed by the British. I see no need to be proud of what these men did, because you took no part in those battles! What foolish pride! What foolish pride it is to celebrate the success of national sports team, simply because of some abstract idea of a nation. I would be more interested in the Seattle native who wins gold in swimming than the Torontonian who does the same- I live closer to the Seattle native, don't I? I can say that he grew up only a few hours drive from me. But, really, that isn't even amazing. What is amazing is how quiet Canada can become after the men's national hockey team loses, particularly like in 2006. Where is the shame? Shame must be there if there is no pride, should it not? It is interesting to note that if the Americans had won a significant victory in the War of 1812, those who are Ontario-born Canadian heroes in sporting and others things would not be- They would be Americans. You would hate them, as you do for no good reason anyway. But imagine that they are exactly the same people, except in different realities, born in a different nation. How are they different, except for some abstract idea of a country? You have no connection to those who fought in the War of 1812. Stop being proud.

Oh, no, not this nationalist crap about the War of 1812.

I could go at lengths to explain why it was barely a Canadian war, or explain to you that to have pride on behalf of men who fought two hundred years ago is foolish, but the simple facts should end this silly claims about the White House. To even take information from your article, we can assert that the British burned down the White House, along with most of Washington. Additionally, the Americans burned the Parliament Buildings! Take that, Canadians!
And your Canadian.....Disgrace lmao. To say that it had almost nothing to do with Canadians is ignorant at best. It was the British, the sovereign rulers of Canada that made up Canada's military. So Canadians were recruited, served in the British ranks and fought along side their British Country Men. At that point and time, Canada and Britain were one in the same...an empire and Canada's soldiers wouldn't be written into history books as Canadians, but of servants of the British Empire, the Brits. Most assuradley there were many Canadian soldiers in the British army. Anyways back to my first comment....I'm guessing your not Canadian, but merely living here. ......Good choice

^^ In response to your b4 mentioned 'novel', having pride in your country's achievments is a lot different than blind patriotism and chest thumping. Canadian's have become a more patriotic country, one that still question's their leaders and politicians, but has a sense of national identity and is proud in it's past achievments and it's future ones.

I find no disgrace in being Canadian, born and raised my entire life in Vancouver, and finding fault in ridiculous nationalist claims in others chest-thumping speeches of anti-Americanism. I know my history very well- Trust me, I know of colonialism, and how "Canada and Britain were one in the same". But the "Canadian" contribution, whilst the term itself is a bit strange to use, and even stranger to distinguish those who lived or were born in Canada from their British or American counterparts, was negligible.

I wonder how one can honestly take "pride in [a] country's achievements" while still attempting to claim to lack "blind patriotism". I find our "patriotic country" filled with patriotic fools.
