A secret US law enforcement report warns that al Qaeda is planning a terror ’spectacular’ this summer.  “This is reminiscent of the warnings and intelligence we were getting in the summer of 2001,” an official told ABC News.  Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said today that there was nothing to worry about.
Should we worry?  If another 9/11 equivalent attack occurs will Bush be blamed for not doing enough?

I'm more worried about drowning in a bathtub since the statistics are higher than a terrorist taking me out.

If the terrorists have it their way we will be in fear when we take a bath (no rubber ducky for you).

Living in fear or "terror" is their way. No thanks, not gonna happen for me. Fear is not a prerequisite for awareness.

I live in a small town in Scotland. Doubt they'd target here. So I'm not afraid all that much.

Agreed.  Unless you live in a high population city or use transportation in a large city (i.e. airports, subways, trains), then you don't have to worry about being killed.

However, the panic afterward is something that might be worst than the actual attack.  Or the economic impact on your country (i.e. a recession that causes you to loose your job), could still affect you.

I wonder if the 'spectacular' attacks they are planning this summer are actually involve some type of public transportation?

This time I think an al-Qa'ida cell on a murderous rampage in small town America would do more harm than another 9/11. That would scare US. While another 9/11 would just piss us off.

Eh, the panic will be short lived. Though, there will be some great deals to be had. I went on a cruise with some friends in Dec after the 9/11 attacks, and we had the most pimp-assed suite on the ship for $399 a person. For a week. On a high end line. That room normally went for like $3000 a person per week.

You do realise your 'story' is in a section called humor right?

The article down the page is quite amusing:

The Daily Gut
Whenever a terror attempt fails - the immediate debate divides into two opposing beliefs: one that makes sense, and one that’s just plain nuts.

The sensible one is that terrorism is our biggest threat, and we must eliminate it completely.

The nutty one is that the terror threat has been exaggerated. And we’re dealing with incompetents. Worse, our overblown reaction has done more harm than good.

But does it matter who is right? As a government, you must protect your citizens, regardless.

Look at it this way:

-If the terror is real, then you continue destroying all terror cells. And, if possible, take out Sean Penn’s camper as collateral damage. If the threat turns out to be exaggerated, you lose nothing, except some time spent at airport security, and maybe your shampoo.

-If the second idiotic belief is right, and there is no terror threat, then you relax security measures and reduce assaults on terror cells. But, here’s the deal: if your instincts are wrong, you end up with many thousands of US citizens dead. That’s not a good thing, even if you’re Rosie O’Donnell.

So the only solution to the terror problem - regardless of how large or small you believe the threat to be - is to relentlessly capture and kill terrorists and remove every speck of al qaeda from this planet.

That, and deporting Danny Glover to Venezuela.

AND THAT’S MY GUT FEELING.

Harmor saw the article under "Humor" and thought it said "Harmor". Sometimes the voices talk to him through the internet.

That's Huey Lewis. He's not a moron, he wrote "The Power of Love" for the Back to the Future soundtrack.

Sometimes news should be distilled to be accepted or understood by the masses.  Remember, most people in the United States never read a newspaper or watch the news.

What's wrong with Huey Lewis?

Huey Lewis recently replaced Katie Couric as anchor of the CBS Evening News.  When asked about this new job, he said: "I'm takin' what they're givin' 'cause I'm workin' for a livin'!"
