Ok my cousin has had his pc for awhile now foolishy purchased from pc world, when he is playing a game e.g. BF2 or CoD2 he hears his fan going off. The pc sorta stutters/freezes for 2-3 seconds and then everythings back to normal.

I am guessing its his psu I am hoping for any ideas or what else it could be and ways to resolve this off you guys I don't know about.

I don't know the model but I have a few specs

3.4Ghz P4 Single Core
5700 Nvidia 256mb
160Gb Harddrive
1Gb Ram
ASUS P4SD-LA (Micro ATX)

He is too scared to open his pc I will find out the psu later.

no offense, i wouldent bother with that pc.
swap PSU's over with yours or one from another computer in his house, if it still happens you know its not the psu,
see if you can manually controll the fan so it dosent go crazy.
good luck

Heh, I don't agree with claor on this one. A 3400 is fine to run bf2 on. However, the 5700 is  a bit old isin't it? I would make sure he has a decent CPU cooler and not a generic one. The Zalaman fans are really good. And I also wouldn't run that PC on anything lower that a 450 Watt power supply. If you got a Case from PC World, The PSUs that come with them are typically junk. Best Buy has some decent ones. You can get some good ones off newegg as well.

What do you mean by "he hears his fan going off" ?

Do you mean the fan stops going?

And which fan? (CPU/case/psu/video card?)

Hmm... Could do with knowing which one for sure.

But, it does sound like it's generally over-heating.

To start, I suggest he gets a 'can of air' and blows out all the dust from within the case.

If that doesn't solve the problem, then he's going to need to look at getting some better cooling...
